REVIEW: New Menu Items Just Hit Disney’s Art of Animation Hotel

There are so many dining options at Disney World, and we always want to ensure you make the best choices for your family. We want you to enjoy delicious food for the right price, so we are always checking out all the dining locations and new food items.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

We are heading over to Landscape of Flavors at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort to try out some new menu items. Is it worth a stop for these new items? We are about to find out, and you all are coming along with us!

Background

Landscape of Flavors is located inside Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. It is a cafeteria-style quick-service dining location right across the hall from the resort’s lobby.

Landscape of Flavors

The dining location has lots of seating options spread between four sections of dining areas. Each dining area is themed to a Disney movie, and the movies are the same ones that are found throughout the resort: Cars, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Finding Nemo.

Seating area

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

Once you walk in, you will see ample seating located throughout the restaurant. To get your food, you can either Mobile Order or head into the food area and place your orders directly at the various food stations. If you order at the food stations, you will gather your food on a tray and then head to the check-out lanes to pay.

Cars seating area

The themed seating areas are nicely decorated, and each area features a large overhead light with a design that fits the theme. The section themed after Pixar’s Cars had these scenic Radiator Springs posters, and the light had clouds on it.

Lion King-themed area

The section themed after Disney’s animated classic The Lion King had these beautiful posters of Africa on the wall. The overhead light was covered in thick green trees.

Little Mermaid seating

The room themed after The Little Mermaid had some dazzling artwork up. We loved the painting up in the corner of Ariel’s underwater castle. The light had a detail that only true fans of the movie will recognize. It’s Ariel’s collection gallery, from a point of view where you are looking up towards the water.

Nemo area

Lastly, the area themed after Finding Nemo has a great view of the outside. You’ll find cool sets and pieces based on the movie. In the light, you’ll spot the group of fish that helps Marlin and Dory.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

We started off with the Ramen Noodle Bowl with Beef for $13.49. It features fresh vegetables and soft-boiled eggs in miso broth. It took maybe about five minutes for us to get ours. We will admit, we were pretty impressed! Even after sitting for a bit, the noodles were still well-cooked.

Ramen Noodle Bowl

The noodles were tender with a bit of a chew to them. The beef was very thin and tender as well, making it easy to eat. The broth is very miso-forward with a hint of sweetness to it. The bowl was also filled with some bok choy, carrots, corn, mushrooms, edamame, sweet peppers, and bamboo shoots.

It was good!

We think the minimal toppings on the ramen were good enough, all the veggies added some good textures to the ramen. The soft-boiled egg was also very enjoyable! The yolk was still runny, and it was soaked in soy sauce. Honestly, that egg was good enough to be in a ramen shop! Overall, very tasty and lots of food.

We also grabbed the Butter Chicken with Naan Bread for $14.19. It is served with steamed rice, green beans, and naan bread. For starters, the chicken was a little on the dry side. However, the butter chicken sauce did help with the flavor and dryness. The sauce is flavorful and spiced, but it’s not spicy at all! It’s a classic flavor for butter chicken, with the garam masala flavors and a bit of creaminess to the sauce.

Butter chicken!

The rice was very well cooked, but not really seasoned or anything. To be honest, the green beans didn’t look super appetizing, but they were surprisingly tasty (which was a pleasant surprise). They had an almost smoky flavor to them, and they were tender while still having a bit of a bite. They were seasoned well, with flavors of pepper, onion, and garlic.

The chicken was a little dry

The naan bread was pulled out of a steamer thing, but it was very chewy and almost crispy. It has a hint of garlic to it, but all in all, this was not our favorite. We feel like it would taste delicious if it were fresh.

There were also some new options for kids’ meals. We decided to grab the Sesame Chicken Kids’ Meal for $8.29. This dish has broccoli, red pepper, and onion with rice served with a choice of two sides and small low-fat milk or small DASANI® bottled water. Right off the bat, this was pretty good! The chicken had a pretty thick layer of coating — and then it was covered in a sticky, sweet, and slightly spiced sauce. The chicken gave us “orange chicken” vibes, not necessarily sesame chicken.

Kids Sesame Chicken meal

It tastes like it is going to get spicy, but then doesn’t get that spicy. That being said, there is a tiny amount of noticeable spice, so if your kid is looking for a very sweet sesame chicken, they may not like this.

Chicken, rice, and veggies

You get three pieces of chicken, a scoop of rice, and a very small scoop of veggies. The veggies are broccoli and red pepper. They taste charred and are nice and tender, but you don’t really taste any seasoning on them.

We finished off our meal with the Sketchbook Cake for $6.79. It is a colorful vanilla sponge cake, vanilla buttercream, chocolate ganache, and edible sketches. The frosting on the outside is chocolate ganache, and then there are two layers of vanilla cake filled with vanilla buttercream.

Vanilla Sketch Cake

The vanilla cake was moist, and the vanilla buttercream seemed excessively sweet. It is also the same thickness as the layers of cake, which honestly felt like a lot. If you’re a fan of frosting, you’d probably love it, to be honest.

Look at Simba!

The chocolate ganache on the outside is very rich. The black in the frosting also stains your mouth a bit, so be warned if you have important pictures coming after you eat (or just drink some water to get it out)! It is tasty if you want a vanilla cake with chocolate frosting, but there aren’t any unique flavors in here.

It’s colorful inside

It is pretty on the inside, and the edible sketches are a cute touch on the outside. Definitely shareable as well! We also noticed that all the sketches were of Simba when we were there. It would be really cool if they had multiple sketch options (Disney, if you’re reading this!). The sketch is edible, but wasn’t really our favorite.

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You need something quick and easy. It’s built like a food court/cafeteria and is a quick service restaurant — so it’s great to grab a quick thing before you go to the park, or after you get back.
  • You want something different. There aren’t many places on Disney World property that offer ramen or butter chicken. So if you’re looking for a different food to eat, this could be your place.
  • You want to go to a chill place that has animation theming. The theming isn’t crazy, we’re not talking a Sci-Fi Dine In or Oga’s Cantina. However, if you want a chill vibe themed after animation, you’ll like the vibe.

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You want fresh food. The food was good, but we’ve tasted fresher at other spots. Granted, this is a quick-service place, so you wouldn’t come here expecting food you’d get at a table service restaurant.
  • You want better theming for your dining experience. This is Disney World after all, so there are A LOT of beautifully themed places to go eat at. In our opinion, there are better options than this when it comes to that.
  • You want somewhere easier to go. This is in a Disney World resort, so it is kind of out of the way for a usual parkgoer. It really only makes sense to go here if you’re staying at the Art of Animation or if you’re resort hopping.

Landscape of Flavors Restaurant

Rating: 7.05 / 10 Recommended By: 83%
Menus: Breakfast, Lunch/Dinner
Services: Quick Service

Overall, the food was good, but it wouldn’t be a restaurant we would say to go out of your way for. If you are staying at the hotel, it is going to be a great option, but nothing really stood out to me where I think someone should make a special trip to the hotel just for this.
