We’re baaack. Yes, we’ve already dined at Das Stakehaus at Epic Universe, the vampire-themed quick-service restaurant in Dark Universe, but we’re back for more. Just like a vampire, our thirst cannot simply be quenched after one meal.

Now that Epic Universe is officially open, there’s a LOT to unpack inside this new Universal park. We’re tracking how the crowds ebb and flow here, and tasting our way around the universe. So when we decided we were ready to try one of the Dark Universe restaurants again, our return trip proved to be a healing experience.
As you pass through the portal of Dark Universe, you’re immediately greeted by macabre sights and things that go bump in the night (even if you’re visiting during the daytime).

You’ll find both monsters and monster hunters roaming the streets of Darkmoor village (spilling all of its juicy gossip and lore), and when the rumbling sounds of your belly have reached a frightening tone, Das Stakehaus is where you should turn.

This vampire-run “fangout” (hangout) pulls you deeper into vampire lore, where you’ll find your table lurking around the darkest shadows and making conversation with the undead familiars who will also double as your servers at your table.

We dig the creepy vibes here so much that we dared to return for another visit and try out another plate we were “dying” to get our hands on. This visit, we ordered the Fish On A Stake. This dish is made of blackened salmon “stake” with charred green onion mashed potatoes, roasted baby carrots, acorn squash, crispy maitake mushrooms. It will set you back $22.99.

Our dish really surprised us in a good way. It was a super well-cooked salmon and well seasoned, even if it was on the basic side. The main flavors from the salmon were the lemon pepper against a blackened taste, and it served this dish well.

The sides were super hearty, well seasoned, and (thankfully) leaned toward the healthier side. After our busy and EXHAUSTING day in the park, we needed a solid meal. (Don’t get us wrong, though, we still love classic theme park food, too.) Between the squash and carrots, paired with mashed potatoes, which were creamy but not decadent, we felt like this was just the type of meal to “heal” you from a tiring theme park day. You know the kind, something that will fill you up without leaving you feeling gross and sluggish.

Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with this meal, and it might warrant a return visit when we’re brave enough to face our darkest fears!
