Epic Universe, Universal Orlando’s newest theme park, is officially open, and we’ve been trying all the food, so you know what you need to try on your park day. Since this is a brand-new theme park, we’ve been trying EVERYTHING!

Breakfast in a theme park is no easy feat, so we headed to Oak & Star Tavern in Celestial Park to bring you a FULL review of their breakfast options. Is this restaurant worth the stop on your busy Epic Universe day? Let’s find out!
Background
Oak & Star Tavern is a quick-service restaurant within Celestial Park, the star-studded center area of Epic Universe. It’s in the Cosmic Garden and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The restaurant is spacious, and we think it’s going to be a favorite for large groups and families. It’s also connected to The Plastered Owl bar, where you can sit down and relax with a drink.

Your party can come in, pick a table, and scan the QR code to order your meal. Team Members will bring the meals straight to you!

Now that we know the details, what is it like to eat there?
Atmosphere
To start, this space is grand and beautiful. Being in Celestial Park, you’ll find stars, constellations, and space-themed accents. There are large columns with gold engravings on the top. When you look up in certain parts, it looks like you’re under the cover of trees, bringing in the “oak” part of the name.

In the corner, there’s a stage where they sometimes have live entertainment, and behind it are stained glass windows of a large oak tree. From booths and tables with chairs, there are a variety of seating options, and again, this space is ample and can accommodate a large number of people. It’s a bit darker, which is nice for those who want a relaxing oasis from the hustle and bustle of the theme park.

We’re ready to eat, so let’s dive in!
Food & Drinks
We started with the Brûlée Hawaiian Mango Bread for $11.99.

This dish is mango bread, pineapple, strawberry, whipped cream, and toasted coconut, and we had bacon and eggs on the side. For $11.99, we got a plate that filled us up for our long Epic day. The mango bread was moist and reminded us of the texture of pumpkin bread. It was a perfect level of sweet where it wasn’t causing a sugar rush, but hit the sweet craving we had. We loved the fruit on top that you could tell was fresh, and it was so juicy. Ours was not served with coconut flakes on top, and while we didn’t think we were missing that flavor, coconut fans would be a little disappointed.

The eggs were the more boring part of the dish. They weren’t very seasoned, but they were fluffy. That bacon, though? Amazing! It was crispy, but not burnt, and you could tell it was seasoned all over. This might be one of our favorite quick-service bacon we’ve had!

Next, we had the Oak & Star Sausage Egg and Cheese Sandwich for $11.99.

The sandwich was made with jalapeno cheddar sausage, eggs, cheddar cheese, mayo-ketchup, and all on a pan-sobao bun. Can we talk about this portion? It’s so big and we got a huge side of fries with it. The sausage on the sandwich was similar to a beef hot dog sausage, cut in half.

We loved the flavors it brought, but the casing was a bit tough to bite through. Because of that, the whole sandwich was messy, but we were willing to look past that for the flavors. The eggs were soft, and the cheese brought in a different flavor. Even the sauces added creaminess to the toasted bun, which had a fluffy interior.

The fries were covered in a barbeque seasoned salt, and we used some of the barbecue sauces offered on the table to dip. The whole meal was filling, especially for the price point.

The last item we had was the Chorizo & Eggs for $11.99.

It came with a spicy tomato and pepper stew, chorizo, baked eggs, feta, and brioche toast. This dish was another large portion! The skillet was packed, and the eggs on top were perfectly runny, just to our liking. The chorizo had a little bit of a kick, but nothing too crazy, and the peppers and onions brought in a richer flavor. The brioche toast was buttered and toasted perfectly, and we were using it to scoop up that beautiful tomato sauce. The feta sprinkled on top helped balance out the dish and made it feel a little lighter.

Magic or Tragic?
You should stop at Oak & Star Tavern for breakfast if…
-
- You want the best bang for your buck
- You are looking for a quick but filling meal
- You enjoy heavier dishes with a barbecue flair
You might want to find another spot if…
-
- You are looking for smaller and on-the-go meals
- You want a full-service and relaxing breakfast
- You enjoy traditional American breakfast-style dishes

Oak & Star Tavern completely blew us away for breakfast. We were impressed with the large portions at a low price point, and these dishes kept us full until our next meal. We can’t believe this is all available at a quick service restaurant where we can walk up and order, and if we recommend one breakfast spot, it will be here on your Epic Universe day!
While we’re planning our next visit, make sure you keep following AllEars for more Epic Universe food reviews so you can make the most of your park day.
