When Will Disney CHANGE the Lightning Lane at This Popular Magic Kingdom Roller Coaster?

BIG ride changes are on their way to Disney World soon, but there’s still one burning question we need answered!

Magic Kingdom

Disney World’s Lightning Lane system certainly has helped us out on a few crowded days around the parks. In fact, we’ve used it so much that we know it backwards, forwards, and even feel like we’ve learned its secrets. However, there are some BIG changes on the horizon for Magic Kingdom and if you’re wondering if that could cause a shake up to the existing Lightning Lane system, we have thoughts.

Disney World’s new way to skip the regular standby lines is called Lightning Lane. It’s actually offered in a few different forms, but for this particular question, we’ll be mostly talking about Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. Multi Pass allows you to make a single purchase per person for the day, that unlocks dozens of rides and attractions found throughout Disney World’s parks. This allows you to enter a much faster Lightning Lane queue and return for a ride when your time window has rolled around to your prior selection in the My Disney Experience app.

While this is great, it doesn’t mean that ALL rides are included. Some of the most popular rides in each park are designated for Lightning Lane Single Pass. This is a separate purchase per person per day that allows its purchaser to enjoy a ride via the Lightning Lane queue for this one single attraction. It can be a great option if you’re really eager to ride some of the most in-demand ride with the lowest wait times possible. This is the case for two of Magic Kingdom’s attractions — TRON Lightcycle/Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train — while the other parks stick to just one Single Pass attraction.

Disney was very excited to announce huge changes coming in the form of Cars Land, which will be taking over Tom Sawyer Island in Frontierland, and an expansion area — Villains Land — coming over the next several years.

While there’s still lots to be learned about the attractions and rides that will be placed in these new areas, it has some asking when we’ll see Seven Dwarfs Mine Train be added to the offerings of Multi Pass.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Historically speaking, we’ve actually never seen a ride or attraction move from Single Pass to Multi Pass, so the chances of this are fairly slim in our opinion. While there will be lots of exciting rides added to these highly anticipated lands when they open at Magic Kingdom, we’re not totally sure if this is a move that Disney is prepared to make and if they do, when it could be.

And, with the addition of Disney World dropping the existing virtual queues for both Guardians of the Galaxy and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, we’re not quite sure yet what this means for the crowds that will be gathered in the standby queues.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

It’s more probable to us that we could see more virtual queues added for the upcoming attractions, and we could see Disney World start to push its visitors to purchase Lightning Lane Premier Pass in its place. Premier Pass gives you the same ability as Multi Pass to skip on to the Lightning Lane queues without the added step of making an advance time selection in the app. However, this Lightning Lane pass option does not have the ability to park hop with you, so it does have its cons, too.

In short, we’re guessing it’s a long-shot to see Seven Dwarfs Mine Train included in the lineup of Multi Pass offerings and would be a game-changer if that ever became the case. For now, it seems much more likely that we’ll see further changes to the Lightning Lanes once the newest additions to Magic Kingdom are open.
