REFILLABLE MUG NEWS: This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things at Disney World

Oh, Disney World refillable mugs, how we love thee.

You might have heard them referred to as Rapid Refill Mugs — they’re essentially the same thing. When you purchase one, you get free refills on soda, tea, coffee, juice, and more at Disney World hotels. You aren’t able to use them for refills in the parks, but Animal Kingdom had its own sort of refillable mug — until now, that is.

The one main gripe most folks have with Disney’s refillable mugs is that they’re not able to be used on free refills at the parks — just the hotels. A while back, though, one Animal Kingdom spot — Yak & Yeti Local Foods Cafeintroduced its own refillable mug.

You could pick up a refillable mug at Yak & Yeti Local Foods Cafe (the quick-service version of the restaurant) for $31 for the initial purchase, but it was refillable ALL DAY for free! If you brought the receipt back (or took a picture of your receipt to show) on future park days, you would only have to pay $2.12 for all-day refills.

But, on a recent trip to Animal Kingdom, we noticed these mugs were no longer for sale at Local Foods Cafe. We decided to ask Cast Members working at the table service restaurant, and we learned some disappointing news!

While the tumblers are still for sale, they’re no longer refillable like they were before. The Cast Members shared that they were forced to stop this perk because too many people were buying them and trying to refill them at other locations — not just Local Foods Cafe. Because of this, they had to discontinue the refillable aspect.

We’re pretty bummed, as this was a nice perk for folks who visit Animal Kingdom frequently. Luckily, if you’re just after the mug as a souvenir — you can still get it!

As for now, it doesn’t seem like Rapid Refill Mugs will make their way to Disney World parks anytime soon — but you know we’ll be the first to let you know if they do!

  1. They should do like Universal does- have a drinks package. They could have hotel only or hotel + parks or parks only for length of stay (or tied to pass type, e.g. Annual pass usage would expire with annual pass- they could charge a bundle for that!!). Universal has Coke freestyle machines throughout their parks that you can use.

  2. At 30 dollars for a cup, there should be refill stations throughout the park. Just bring in a small cooler with some sodas Disney is ridiculous with drink prices.
