REVIEW: We’re Trying Breakfast at Disney World’s NEW Wailulu Bar and Grill

The brand-new Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is officially open!

Island Tower

This new Disney Vacation Club resort is available for bookings using DVC points or by booking at a cash value. It’s a gorgeous hotel with an amazing view of Seven Seas Lagoon and Magic Kingdom. There are lots of new amenities, including a new pool and splash zone, new terrace gardens, and more! Plus, there’s an all-new walk-up pool bar and grill located in the new tower, Wailulu Bar & Grill, and we checked out the new breakfast offerings!

Background

Wailulu gets its name from the Hawaiian words wai meaning “water” and lulu meaning “calm.” This seems to be a fitting name for this restaurant as it’s located right along the Seven Seas Lagoon and has breathtaking views of the water.

Wailulu Bar & Grill

You’ll get to enjoy great food and drinks inspired by the flavors of the South Pacific Islands. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all offered here, and it’s open from 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM, but you can get breakfast and coffee here starting at 7:30 AM to 11 AM. The breakfast offerings here are “Grab and Go,” and include items like a croissant, cinnamon bun, and pineapple-coconut bread (which you can only get during breakfast hours).[

The Menu

You’ll find lots of influences of the Pacific Islands, so let’s dive into the atmosphere of this new bar and grill!

Atmosphere

This breezy, tropical location has lots of Polynesian-inspired artwork all around it. There are even some pieces that have been made with recycled materials and reclaimed fishing nets!

There’s seating on a patio that offers great views of the lake and Magic Kingdom; you might even want to catch the fireworks show here some night!

Food & Drinks

Like we said, for breakfast, it is just “Grab and Go” items, so if you are looking for a full-service meal, you may want to head next door to the Polynesian Village Resort and dine at either ‘Ohana or Kona Island, but Wailulu Bar & Grill is a solid option to grab a quick bite before heading to the parks.

Quincy and Angie

We ended up grabbing a few of the items offered on the limited menu. To start, we got the Joffrey’s Coffee Hawaiian Kona Blend for $4.49, which is freshly brewed.

Freshly Brewed

This same blend is served over at the Polynesian Village, and it is a medium roast coffee. When you order it, you are given a cup, and you are able to fill it with cream and sugar. We have had this blend of coffee before, and we find it to be delicious with a hint of tropical flavors.

No better way to start the day!

They also have espresso-based beverages, and we tried the Caffe Latte with Caramel Syrup for $6.49. Typically, this drink is $5.99 , but if you want to add flavored syrup, it costs an additional 50 cents. Other syrup options included sugar-free vanilla and regular vanilla. Along with the different syrups, you can also substitute different kinds of milk; they have almond milk, oat milk, and soy milk.

Caffe Latte

This was good; it was nothing too unique. That being said, it was still enjoyable.

We added caramel to ours!

Now it’s time for the eats! We got the Pineapple Coconut Bread, which is very similar if not identical to the bread you get at ‘Ohana breakfast. It is $4.79.

Pineapple Coconut Bread

This was delicious. We love how fluffy the bread was. It tastes like a King’s Hawaiian Roll with the addition of pineapple bits. It was sweet, and the glaze on top added a nice bit of tartness.

So fluffy!

Up next, we got the Strawberry Yogurt Parfait for $5.99.

Strawberry Yogurt Parfait

Once again, this was delicious. The strawberries were nice and fresh, and we loved the unique touch of the coconut flakes and granola. This is really easy to eat on the go, so it is a good option if you are trying to grab a quick breakfast before heading to the parks.

A good grab and go option

Finally, we tried the Banana Muffin for $4.49.

Banana Muffin

Honestly, this was our favorite part of breakfast here. It is an incredible muffin. We found it to be moist, fluffy, and crumbly all at the same time. There is a glaze on top that is so delicious. This was one of the best banana muffins we have ever had.

So good!

Magic or Tragic

Do we recommend this restaurant’s breakfast? It depends. This may be a great breakfast option if:

  • You want a quick bite to eat.
  • Don’t want to make a reservation to dine at a restaurant.
  • Are you looking for a “Grab and Go” meal.

Skip this bar and grill if:

  • Looking to dine at a table service location.
  • Want a menu with a wide variety, including hot menu items.

Overall, this spot is beautiful, and we can totally see ourselves stopping by for a quick breakfast bite in the morning, especially for that Banana Muffin.
