I’ve been super excited to visit Plaza de Coco since it was announced, considering Coco is my absolute favorite movie of all time! So it’s safe to say my expectations were through the roof before visiting.
Aboard the Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the vibrant town of Santa Cecilia awakens at Plaza De Coco, the first theatrical dining experience themed to the Disney and Pixar film, “Coco.” Miguel and his familia take guests on a colorful, music-filled journey that celebrates treasured family memories and togetherness with a festive dinner menu that offers a modern twist on traditional Mexican fare. Plaza de Coco restaurant is a theatrical dining experience meant for guests of all ages, featuring two distinct nights of entertainment inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Coco. The restaurant is part of the Disney Treasure’s rotational dining system.
We’re here!!!
First off, I’ve gotta brag a little bit — I GOT TO HOLD THE OSCAR THAT COCO WON!!!
I got to meet and watch a panel with the voice of Miguel — Anthony Gonzalez — and the director of Coco — Lee Unkrich– and Lee asked me if I wanted to hold the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Honestly, I flipped out a little (wouldn’t you?)!
I met the director of ‘Coco’ and the voice of Miguel AND I got to hold the Oscar!!!
It was so special for me to talk to these two and tell them that they are behind my favorite movie ever. It was extra special to listen to them talk about seeing Santa Cecilia come to life at Plaza de Coco on the ship.
Truly, I am still so starstruck and grateful that this happened. Lee Unkrich also directed Toy Story 3 and co-directed Toy Story 2,Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo so he had a massive effect on my childhood.
What an experience!
While I got a super special memory that I’ll never forget, I can’t promise you’ll get to hang out with the cast and take a selfie with the Oscar. What I can promise, however, is that you will be transported into the world of Coco.
Riviera family business
For starters, you’ll get a look at the Riviera family shoe-making business with detailed props and cute little nods literally everywhere.
A closer look
Seriously, you can see all the love that was put into the fine details of this restaurant. There’s something fun and unique to the film to look at EVERYWEHERE.
Portholes
Side note: these portholes work so well with the theming and are absolutely adorable!
*Chef’s kiss*
There’s even a missing guitar design on the wall!
Plaza de Coco
Speaking of the wall, those aren’t just random parchments framed. Each one includes letters to Coco from Héctor as well as the music and lyrics to “Remember Me (Dúo)”. Even looking at it now is emotional.
My heart…
I mean, just look at these. It’s enough to make anyone tear up.
Wall art
There’s also tons of wall art that make you feel right at home in the world of Coco.
Miguel and Coco
The art really highlights the theme of family and lends even more authenticity to this dining experience.
Bathrooms
Going back to the theming, even the restrooms look like something straight out of the movie!
Hallway
It’s everywhere and I’m LOVING IT!
Decor
The restaurant really celebrates Mexican art and leans into that theming tremendously.
So cute!
It makes for some really great art pieces!
R.IP. Héctor
The theming is also overflowing with sentimentality, so be prepared to have some feelings that may transcend into your actual life.
Ofrenda
Staying true to the Mexican Día de los Muertos celebration theme that is so heavily present in the movie, Plaza de Coco has an ofrenda.
So beautiful
This beautiful piece honors the dead and doesn’t shy away from mortality, so if you’re just expecting to show up, eat, and not have a visceral reaction, best of luck.
Coco
All in all, the theming here is incredibly impressive and a must-see for diehard fans of the movie.
But let’s get into the dining experience, shall we?
Offerings
You’ll find plenty of Mexican cuisine, specialty cocktails, and some souvenirs here as well.
Dinnerware
The plates are extra special, featuring the inscription: “Our love for each other will live on forever,” a lyric from “Proud Corazón”.
Dining area
Talking semantics, the seating is plentiful, if not a little cramped. There are tables galore, including family-style tables.
Smaller tables
The theming carries in hard here, too, transporting guests into the Land of the Dead.
Entertainment
Of course, we teased entertainment, and there is plenty of it!
Dancer
You’ll see dancers…
Musicians
…musicians…
Plaza de Coco entertainment
…and the stars of the film, of course!
Miguel!
You’ll hear plenty of music, see tons of dancing, and experience just enough spectacle to entertain you while you dine.
Héctor and Imelda
Featuring a story and familiar characters, there’s enough here to keep the whole family entertained.
