Look, the Disneyland Resort is absolutely amazing and we won’t ever stop singing its praises…BUT it’s got one big, stinky problem.
Disneyland Park was Walt Disney’s first theme park and was meant to transport guests into a magical world void of real-world problems. For the most part, it lives up to that dream. The park is home to so many iconic attractions, eats, and smells. Whenever we get a whiff of popcorn or the bromine in the water, it triggers a comforting happiness within us. HOWEVER, not all Disneyland smells are good, and there’s one smell in particular that we have to speak out against.
The churro and popcorn carts are often associated with positive smells at Disneyland. However, there is one cart in particular that bucks the trend and has an odd odor almost all the time.
If you head over to the area between Sleeping Beauty Castle and Matterhorn Bobsleds you’ll find the Churros near Sleeping Beauty Castle cart. This cart is often very popular as it is located in one of the most frequented spots in Disneyland and lots of folks will line up to grab a snack throughout the day. It’s also home to a terrible odor.
For whatever reason, this cart and the area around it always have a body odor/sewage/Code V smell.
While we don’t know the exact cause, that hasn’t stopped us from speculating.
The cause of the stench could be several different reasons.
For starters, the cart is heavily visited and a lot of people who could be dealing with body odor in the hot California sun wait around in the area. Still, we’ve been there when the park is empty, the weather is cold, and when the stand isn’t open, and can still smell it, so the answer may not be that simple.
The smell lingers, which could be caused by possible nearby sewage.
Another possibility is that the cart itself may need changing or some maintenance. Disneyland churros are made with oil and when the oil goes bad it smells ghastly.
Either way, the mystery will remain unsolved for the time being. That still won’t stop us from holding our breath and grabbing a churro or visiting a different cart somewhere else within the park!

My Disney Poncho Failed Me

I haven’t been there so I can’t say, but when electronics go bad they occasionally emit this body odor smell that is distinctive. I used to regularly encounter it in one of the vestibule entrances to my workplace, and I once had it happen to a laptop—this odd B.O., cumin-y smell. So possibly it’s the workings of the cart itself, though I would be surprised no one’s addressed it if so.
