While going to Disney World with your family can be a fantastic trip filled with wonderful memories you’ll never forget, there will be several attractions your younger kids may not be tall enough to go on.

But don’t worry! You don’t have to miss out on attractions entirely! This is where Rider Switch comes in, which is a fantastic system that allows one adult to go with the child who IS tall enough to ride through the regular queue, and when they’re done, the other adult can swap out and ride with the child again without having to go back through the line! But now that Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass are the new Genie+, how does the system work while using the service? We found out!
The first step to using Rider Switch and Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass is that everyone in your party who plans on riding must have Multi Pass, or a Single Pass for that attraction. For example, Dad and Daughter can’t only have it if Mom wants to ride with Daughter as well. Dad, Mom, and Daughter must have it, but Baby/Toddler Son who CAN’T ride doesn’t need to.

However, if only one person in your party has purchased access to the Lightning Lane, Disney will have the first group ride the attraction through the standby line and then have the second group (of up to two people) go through the Lightning Lane. This basically means you’re getting no extra benefit since that’s how it works without Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass, so it’s best to have no one in your party have it, or everyone who wants to ride.

It’s also important to know the rules about groups. If you are the only adult waiting alone while the first group rides, you can take only one of the adults from the first group with you when you ride as part of the second group.

It’s also important to make sure you’ve got your whole party with you before heading to the Lightning Lane return entrance to set up Rider Switch because the Cast Member must SEE the child that’s too young/short to ride in your party! Here are the official step-by-step rules for using Rider Switch:

Using Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass with Rider Switch can be a great way to skip the bulk of the line while also making sure that all adults can ride if they want to.
