In case you haven’t noticed, one classic Disney World ride has been having a LOT of problems recently.

This ride has closed multiple times over the past few months and even had some days when it was closed nearly all day. It’s an indoor attraction, so the closures aren’t ride-related, so we don’t really know what’s going on, but we’re worried about it. The ride? It’s Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom.
You might think we’re exaggerating when we mention that the ride has been closed so much, but we’ve got the math to back us up. Pirates of the Caribbean had the most ride closures in Magic Kingdom in August: it was closed 56 times over 27 days.

We’ve often seen Pirates of the Caribbean closed at the beginning of the day (even before anyone has had a chance to ride it). We’ve even seen it closed for almost an entire day.

So here’s the thing: we understand that outdoor rides in Disney World close when the weather is bad. But Pirates of the Caribbean is entirely indoors, so that’s not why it’s down. When we’ve asked Cast Members about the closures, they were usually unsure, although we surmised that the ride is having technical problems — a lot.

So what can fix all the technical problems that seem to be plaguing Pirates of the Caribbean right now? The only thing we can think of is that it’s probably time for the ride to get a lengthy refurbishment so that it can get a refresh and Disney can fix all the problems that have caused all of its downtime. Of course, that means one of Disney World’s most classic attractions might be down for weeks — or even longer — so folks visiting Magic Kingdom might end up disappointed if they had plans to ride it.

We could argue that this is already the case because the ride is down so often that there’s no guarantee that you’ll get to ride it if you visit Magic Kingdom. So maybe a lengthy refurbishment is just what it needs to fix these ongoing issues.
Whatever the case, we’re worried about the ride and we hope it gets some Disney TLC soon.

This ride is not worth the wait to us. It’s really a letdown compared to the Disneyland version so we usually avoid it unless the line is miraculously short.
I am a pass holder for 2 years and prior to pass holder I attended Disney at least 1 to 2 times a month. The ride was always closed. I was finally able to go on the ride for the first time this past weekend.
