The BIGGEST PROBLEM
Disruption Caused by Ongoing Construction
At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, we’re watching the new Disney Vacation Club villas come to life before our very eyes. The project was first announced in March of 2022 and is expected to be completed in late 2024.
And, you won’t believe it, but this ongoing construction work at the resort has been a bit of a bother. It’s not uncommon to hear guests express their frustration with unsightly views and occasional disruptions during their stay.
Disney is trying to provide clear communication about construction activities as seen on their website: “As we prepare for the proposed expansion at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, you will see and hear construction at certain times of day. To minimize disruptions during your stay, activities that may create noise will not start earlier than 9:00 AM.”
But the noise and the visual impact are really hard to mitigate to ensure that guests are well-accommodated during this construction period.
Other Problems To Be Aware Of
Affordability Challenges
Speaking of enjoying the resort, affordability has become a significant concern. Many have noticed that the cost of staying at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort can be quite steep, making it a less accessible option for most travelers.

Impact of Bungalows on Fireworks Views:
You know those breathtaking fireworks views at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort? Well, unfortunately, the presence of the bungalows has obstructed some of those magical views around the resort.
To be sure, not all of the views are blocked, but it’s such a shame because those views were a highlight for many guests. Clearly, the bungalows are here to stay, so the resort will need to find a way to redesign other spaces or optimize the layout so that more guests can enjoy those iconic views.
Reduction of Live Entertainment:
You know what’s been missing lately? The vibrant live entertainment at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Remember the luau? It used to be such a highlight, and now things seem to have diminished.
Bringing back or introducing new, inclusive forms of entertainment would ensure that every guest experiences the true magic of Disney during their stay.
Balconies in Standard Rooms
Did you know that some of the standard rooms at the resort don’t have full balconies and others do? Some have “Juliet-style” balconies instead.
If having a full balcony is a must-have for you, and you want to step out onto it and take in the tropical views surrounding the resort, be sure to ask Disney and make a request when making your reservation and when checking in.

The biggest problem at the Polynesian is the construction of a truly ugly building that doesn’t belong.
I’ve never been able to afford Polynesian, but it used to be a highlight of our trips to visit the resort and enjoy a meal and the amenities and shops. Now it is much less enjoyable because transportation to Polynesian inevitably involves encountering some kind of construction. Taking the boat from MK used to be fun, but now the walk from the boat dock to the main hotel features noise and construction obstacles. We won’t visit again until Disney quits building on every available square inch of the property.
The loss of the luau is huge. Disney needs to find a way to bring that back in a new space. I recall that 20 years ago they actually held it inside a large ballroom when there was a fear of West Nile virus spread by mosquitos. It was a fine luau, though not with the same charm as the outdoor venue. I would have preferred their building the now-canceled Reflections DVC property where River Country used to stand. The other big loss is their reimagined lobby. The old lobby with its magnificent waterfall was an attraction in itself. Even when not staying at the resort, I would make a special trip to the Poly just to take in the waterfall. Now they’re building a Moana water attraction at Epcot, which demonstrates how fascinated guests are with water displays. It seems as if these two recent moves have significantly diminished the Poly resort in favor of cramming more people into rooms to make more $$s. The green-shaded accountant has triumphed over the creative Inagineer.
