Things are constantly CHANGING in Disney World.

Sometimes it’s a change in ticket prices, a change related to Genie+, or even a change to certain fees. But today we’re bringing you an update about the construction changes happening at a popular Disney World hotel. Disney previously announced that a brand NEW Disney Vacation Club villas are coming to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and there’s been some BIG progress made in that construction area lately.
Back in March of 2022, Disney announced that this new DVC project would be coming to the Polynesian and is expected to be finished in late 2024. The expansion will feature new rooms, new recreation options, and new dining locations.

Back in early January of 2023, things were still looking pretty sparse here with lots of dirt all around. But things have REALLY changed since then!

We made a lap around Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort on the Disney Monorail in mid-February and here’s what things were looking like at that point — talk about a change!

Let’s go through some of the main things we’ve spotted. For starters, the land itself has been flattened quite a bit so there are fewer huge piles of dirt than before (or at least dirt seems to have been moved around to different spots).

When we stopped by, there was also a LOT of active work going on. They can be hard to see since the space is pretty expansive, but you’ll see some workers in yellow construction jackets scattered throughout the site, especially over on the platforms that have already been built (they appear to have been made with concrete).

There’s a yellow beam that seems to mark the start of some of the construction and a lot of construction vehicles on site as well.

In one corner, you can see a lot of what appear to be pipes.

They appear to be in different colors and sizes.

In one spot, it looks like some piping has already gone into a dug-out area of the ground.

Things really seem to be moving along.

In this spot, you can see a variety of construction vehicles as well as that feature in the center/right/bottom area of the photo where some barriers surround a piece in the ground.

Considering the fact that the space is set to open next year, it seems like Disney is really trying to make as much progress as quickly as possible.

There are quite a few structures (look to be made of concrete) already in the ground already, which is a good sign.

There are, however, some areas that still look like they’re being flattened and prepared for future developments.

From this angle, we get a clearer view of some of the construction equipment being held closer to the shoreline, and the barriers preventing too much of the construction from impacting the nearby water.

It looks like there’s quite a bit of equipment over here, including what could be some rebar.

Here’s another look at some of the construction.

You can see how one section is blocked off by a barrier as you get closer to the existing Polynesian hotel.

If you will be staying at the Polynesian in the upcoming months, just know that this construction is ongoing.

Disney has warned that guests may hear and see construction at certain times of the day, but construction activities that create noise are not supposed to start earlier than 9AM.

What do you think about the progress that has been made on the construction here? Do you think Disney will hit its 2024 deadline? Tell us in the comments.

We’ll continue to keep an eye out for updates on the construction here and let you know what we see. Stay tuned for the latest news. Click here to see more construction updates from Disney World.
