We’ve been watching the construction on Universal’s Epic Universe and awaiting its grand opening for a little while now, but today Universal announced TWO more things for us to look forward to…and they’re outside of Florida!

Bloomberg has just shared details about two new projects for Comcast’s Universal Parks & Resorts division, coming to Texas and Nevada. And the details have us PUMPED!

Universal

To start, “The company plans to build a family-focused resort aimed specifically at younger kids on 97 acres of land it’s acquired in the Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas. It will include rides, shows, and a hotel, as well as character meet and greets tied to the company’s library of film and TV properties, which include Minions and Shrek.”

NBCDFW shared some quotes from the presentation where the theme park was announced. Mark Woodbury, chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts was present and said the following:

We have a portfolio of terrific attractions that appeal to young families around the world. We had an idea to bring all of those together and create a destination that is specifically designed to appeal to families with young children. That’s what you see in this illustration now and that’s what we hope to bring to Frisco.”

Page Thompson, president of new ventures for Universal Parks & Resorts, noted that the company has purchased 97 acres on the east side of the Dallas North Tollway near Panther Creek Parkway for the new theme park and hotel.

The resort will be about 1/4 of the size of the parks in Orlando, more suited to families with small children. It should be a one or two-day destination.

Universal also announced plans for a year-round horror-focused destination in Las Vegas. The 110,000 square foot location will be an expansion of Vegas’s Area15 entertainment district. The area is currently home to “themed restaurants and entertainment attractions such as Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart, an immersive art experience.”

Universal is known for hosting Halloween Horror Nights in the theme parks each year, and it has revealed that content from both classic and upcoming horror films will be included in the new Las Vegas experience.
