One of Disney’s most profitable ventures is its media industry.

It’s where everything started nearly 100 years ago, and it continues to thrive with new movies, TV shows, and the streaming business of Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu. Disney is constantly making new announcements about upcoming media projects — so many that it’s hard to keep track of them all! But today, we’re rounding up all the big news from the last week to share with you.
Future Projects for Disney+
Let’s kick things off with some big Disney+ news! We got announcements about several new series coming in the future. First of all, ComicBook announced that the new Beauty and the Beast prequel series is aiming to start shooting this spring. We can’t wait to have Josh Gad back as LeFou!

Also, Disney+ will be getting a new Marvel series titled Echo, which will follow the story of Maya Lopez/Echo from Hawkeye. This week, we got more information about the show’s production, including the announcement that writers Dara Resnik and Ken Kristensen from Daredevil and The Punisher have been pulled to work on the script. CBR reported the news a few days ago.

And speaking of Marvel content on Disney+, Deadline reported that Laura Donnelly has joined the cast of the upcoming Halloween special for the streaming service. Plot details for the Marvel show are being kept under wraps, but Gael Garcia Bernal is already on the cast, and production should begin in the next few months.

And finally in Disney+ news, one of the recent Marvel films, Eternals finally joined the streaming service for free on January 12th. The movie began its run in theaters back in November and has arrived on the platform now for subscribers to view.

Hulu and ESPN+
But Disney+ isn’t the only streaming service with news this week! It was recently announced that Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network is now available to Hulu Live TV subscribers. Variety reported that the new channel would be added starting on January 6th.

And in ESPN+ news, the price has been raised for pay-per-view UFC fights. USA Today reports that the price went up $5, from $69.99 to $74.99 per fight, and that the change will go into effect on January 22nd. In addition to that, the ESPN+ pay-per-view package is going up from $89.98 to $99.98. (The package includes one pay-per-view event and an annual subscription.)

Movie News
There was some big movie news for Disney this week as well, starting with casting for the Snow White live-action remake. The cast already included Rachel Zegler as Snow White herself and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, but now The Hollywood Reporter announced that Andrew Burnap has joined the lineup as well. According to the announcement, he will play a new male character and his role will require him to sing. We can’t wait!

Also, Marvel’s latest hit film, Spider-Man: No Way Home will be available for digital purchase and download soon. Online video store Vudu put the film up for pre-order on its website and announced that it would be releasing on February 28th, 2022. However, they did note that the release date was subject to change. The film has been incredibly successful at the box office since it premiered in December.

This has also been a particularly successful week for Disney’s new animated film, Encanto. Ever since it arrived on Disney+, it has been gaining traction, with the hit songs and heartwarming story resonating with audiences. Songs from the movie are topping the charts months after they were first released.

And if you’re a fan of the film, you’ll be happy to know that it won a Golden Globe for Best Animated Film!
