There have been quite a few changes around Disney World in the last couple of years!
Perhaps one of the biggest changes was when Disney announced that Rivers of Light, Stitch’s Great Escape, and Primeval Whirl would all be closing permanently last year! Primeval Whirl in particular has sat abandoned and vacant since then, but now there’s some construction happening in the former location.
Today we spotted new construction walls around the Primeval Whirl ride system! A few months ago the ride vehicles were removed, but the track has been sitting here unused since then.
For a while before its permanent closure, Primeval Whirl was operating on a seasonal schedule. So, when Disney decided to shut down a few attractions after the pandemic, it made sense that this was one on the list.
Now, it seems as though some construction work will finally be happening in this area. Could the new walls mean that the track is being removed?
We’ll make sure to keep checking back in this area for updates as the construction continues. Disney hasn’t given any indication of what might replace Primeval Whirl, so it’ll be interesting to see if the space is just left empty after the ride leaves the area.

This was the only ride our WHOLE family would ride together! Even the less adventurous would go on this one if we put them in the middle. We will definitely miss it.
I loved Primeval Whirl. I’m really sad it has closed.
My family liked primeval whirl. It was your basic carnival “wild mouse” type ride, but it was fun and gave the park another ride especially in the pre-Pandora era. It did keep with the theme of the roadside dinosaur midway. Fingers crossed Disney might add zootopia land to AK!
