Major League Soccer Just Set a Guinness World Record at Disney World!

Disney World has been home to the resurgence of various professional sports leagues, including Major League Soccer with the MLS is Back Tournament.

Although the NBA season continues at Disney, the MLS is Back Tournament is over. But celebrations are in order as the MLS tournament has officially set a very special record!

Walt Disney World recently announced through its Walt Disney World Cast and Community Facebook page that Major League Soccer has set the Guinness World Record for the largest single location professional soccer tournament through its MLS is Back Tournament!

According to the Guinness World Records website, the tournament featured 24 teams who played 51 matches in total in 35 days. The record was officially achieved on August 10th, 2020.

The Guinness World Record website also notes that hosting the tournament in a single-location “bubble” allowed for the creation of a controlled environment that helped protect the health of the staff, coaches, and players.

The final game of the MLS tournament was held on August 11th and ultimately it was the Portland Timbers who won it all, defeating local team Orlando City. Disney celebrated the momentous finale by lighting up Cinderella Castle in the colors of the teams.
