Disney World will not only be opening its parks up in July, but it will be hosting a series of sports events on property as well!

While the NBA has come to an agreement with Disney regarding its 2019-2020 being played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, another tournament will be played in Orlando too!
Major League Soccer (or MLS) will be returning to play its tournament at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, starting with its Group Stage on July 8th and Final on August 11th.

All 26 MLS clubs will be participating to earn the 2021 Concacaf Champions League spot. The Group Stage will count towards the regular season and will be followed by a series of knockout rounds. The pre-tournament draw will assign groups, and the regular season will continue after the tournament.

The 54 matches of the tournament will air on different network with “experimental technologies, including interactive fan elements and unprecedented access to players and coaches, to create a unique experience for viewers.”

MLS will be taking extensive precautions to protect its players, coaches, and anybody else in contact with the teams. Before arriving, all essential members fo a club delegation will go through two Polymerase Chain Reaction (of PCR) tests 24 hours apart. Players will go through a physical exam that includes an antibody test, temperature check, and a screening questionnaire.

After they arrive in Florida, everyone will go through another PCR test and receive them every other day during the first two weeks in Orlando. Once the initial 14 days have passed, all the MLS members will be tested on a regular basis, including the day before each match.

Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will also ask them to complete self-temperature screening and complete standardized screening questionnaires before entering the complex or providing hotel services. The Walt Disney World Resort and Swan and Dolphin Resorts, where players will likely be staying, will also be using enhanced sanitation, capacity limits, and social distancing.

In addition, an MLS task force will be enforcing that people wear face coverings, social distance, avoid touching faces, wash hands frequently, avoid sharing food or other items, and disinfect surfaces consistently. You can check out the full list of health and safety protocols here!
