3rd Day at Sea — Disney Magic 14-night Trans-Atlantic Cruise – Day 5

We awoke to calm seas and slightly overcast skies again this morning. I have to keep reminding myself that this is not the Caribbean; don’t expect warm temps and sun.

First thing I headed to the fitness center for a body conditioning class. Not exactly Crossfit, but I did manage to work up a decent sweat.

This afternoon we attended a lecture presentation by Disney Imagineer Gary Landrum on the Disney Dream! Lots of cool stuff. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos to share as photography, video, and audio recording were all prohibited.

I do remember a few fun facts though! The ship will have 16 decks instead of the 14 as originally announced. The “magic portholes” for the inside staterooms are such a hit that they are all sold out for the first couple of Dream cruises! A significant percentage of staterooms will accommodate 5 guests and more rooms will connect. The mascot, Admiral Donald Duck, was selected because of the Aquaduck water coaster. The character gracing the back of the ship will be none other than a dreaming Sorcerer Mickey along with his dancing brooms from Fantasia!

Have I mentioned that we’re booked on the maiden voyage of the Disney Dream? A 4-night cruise will definitely not be enough to experience this amazing new ship. So, we booked another 4-night cruise in the same stateroom – back-to-back!

After the lecture, we were treated to some beautiful sunshine! Yeah! Next up: tequila and margarita tasting! My favorite!

And, this tasting did not disappoint. Three tequilas and two margaritas. Yum. Yum. Yum. Loved them all. Met two very nice ladies from Illinois and our Panama stateroom neighbors from the northwest were there, too! It’s like you are always traveling with friends; some you may not even know yet!

I’m very excited because this evening we *know* we will have an outstanding meal at Palo. I can hardly wait. Did you know that on the Disney Dream in addition to Palo they will have an even more elegant French restaurant called Remy’s? The theme is from the movie Ratatouille and from what I’ve learned it should be an awesome dining experience!

When you take one of Disney’s longer cruises (more than 7 days), you get to experience special entertainment beyond the spectacular plays that you would normally enjoy. Tonight was one of those presentations: Once Upon a Song. This show featured the vocal talents of 5 members of the Walt Disney Theater cast. Definitely two thumbs up for this one! They started with a tribute to the Sherman brothers by singing several Mary Poppins’ tunes. They followed that with a wide variety of songs from many of the well-known and lesser-known Disney movies – Mulan, Brother Bear, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Beauty & the Beast, Toy Story, Enchanted, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Little Mermaid, and so many more.

Then we ended our evening with the perfect meal at Palo’s. Andrea from Brazil was our server; she was also our server for High Tea!

We sampled so many different things accompanied by a wonderful bottle of Italian red wine. They even remembered we were celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary (actually on May Day, but April 14 works, too!).

Michael is carrying his Kindle with him wherever he goes on the ship – there is always time to squeeze in another page. He spent quite a bit of time this morning near the pool, meeting people, reading on his Kindle and enjoying cigars. Go Figure.

We set our clocks ahead again tonight. Enough! I can’t stand to lose any more time on this wonderful vacation. For now though, we will sleep.
