Review of All Star Sports Resort (Value Resort)

We stayed at the All-Star sports on 10/19 and 10/20/2017. We had a request for the Surf's up section, which was granted and we had a great room just steps away from the front desk and pool. Our check-in was very easy and efficient. The front desk staff and managers were very accommodating and nice. It had been years since our last stay at any of he All-Star resorts. This was the only thing we could get before our stay at our home Old Key West resort. It was nice looking at all of the decorations and art again. The quick service is just amazing at any of the Value resorts I am always very impressed. The only thing I now remember I did not like was the bus service, just very busy. I really did enjoy our stay and would stay there again. I think this resort is perfect for the family vacation and definitely less expensive than the other Disney Properties.

Pros:

Clean, staff and a room very close to the pool.

Cons:

Asked not to receive early checkout and this did not happen

Review of Kona Cafe Lunch/Dinner

Kona is usually a must do for us- Lapu Lapu's and good food... unfortunately our last visit in June was not good. We were very disappointed. We were a large party, there were 12 of us in all. 10 of our party were seated together and two of us were seated on our own. This was poor planning on their part as they had smaller parties seated at the end of the table, which is why we were separated. We had the reservation for 5 months, this was not a surprise for them. Drinks were slow to come and warm when we received them. Service was very spotty, the wait staff (we had 2) disappeared for long stretches leading to a drawn out meal. Just overall disappointing. It will be a while before we go back.

Pros:

food was good

Cons:

drinks were warm, service slow, party split up

Review of Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge (Disney Vacation Club)

We stayed at Boulder Creek in a dedicated 2 bedroom villa (room 5537) for 6 nights in August 2017 as a prelude to our cruise on the Disney Dream.

We were DVC members staying on points and this was our first time staying at BCV. We have stayed at other DVC resorts and typically make AKL - Kidani Village our choice but we decided to switch it up and give the Wilderness Lodge a try.

Our group consisted of my husband and I our two boys (14 and 12) and 75 yr old Mother.

I'm so glad we did. Here are the things we loved about it.

1. Atmosphere/Layout
Our villa faced the lake and the Boulder Creek pool and it was pretty quiet there. If you wanted to join in on pool activities you could go over to the CC pool which was a very short walk away. I felt like there were plenty of spaces to explore but none were too far away to be inconvenient.

2. Activities
We rented bikes and rode to Fort Wilderness stables and around the camping loops. The ride was so nice and we had a good time exploring. We also rented searays (small boats) and that was highlight of the trip for my 12 yr old who was old enough to drive his own. The pool areas were very nice and well maintained. Several shady cabana type areas available. We also took advantage of roasting marshmallows at the fire pit on a few occasions as well as hung out waiting for the Geyser to erupt on the hour.

3. Geyser Point Grill and Territory Lounge
We made use of both the Geyser Point Grill and the Territory Lounge several times during our trip. Cast members were friendly and the menu was good. GPG had a very relaxing respite from the sun. I loved the décor of the Territory Lounge and they had good local beers to try. We also made our way to the raucously wonderful Whispering Canyon Café and our server did not disappoint.

4. Common area in the Boulder Ridge Section
There were fun little places to gather and play board games or wait for others to meet up.

We did not make a lot of use of the buses since we had a rental car that made travel to parks/Disney Springs or other resorts easy. We did take the bus to the Magic Kingdom and it was a quick short ride. WL is so close to the Magic Kingdom it made sense to use the bus.

My husband and I both agreed that we found a new favorite place to stay. Hope this helps anyone doing future planning. Boulder Creek was a big thumbs up for us.

Pros:

Geyser Point Grill / Quiet Atmosphere / Lots to do

Cons:

Buses to all theme parks

My home resort. Always a good place to stay. Two issues this time: 1) Friends stayed in a separate studio, and their bathroom floor would flood a bit, so they used their towels to deal with it. When they called for extra towels, they were told it would be for a fee. I understand that towel service is a pre-set schedule and otherwise costs a fee, but they should have at least asked why towels were requested. Had I known I would have dealt with it, but my friends did not say anything until their last day. Still, a little disappointing. Also - twice the bus for DHS was well over a half-hour wait.

Pros:

theming

Cons:

towels, bus to DHS

Best meal of the trip. My wife and I had been here maybe 7 years ago, and have wanting to go back ever since. This dinner reminded us of why we wanted to return. Only complaint was they ran out of the elk loin, but it didn't matter - the beef tenderloin I had instead was the best I've ever had. So much flavor! Service was impeccable; server (wish I could remember her name) was not only on the ball, but had a personalty and was very intelligent. She kept right up with a spirited group. Wine choices also excellent. All of us were incredibly impressed. Can't wait to go back!

Pros:

Everyting

Cons:

No elk

Had lunch here on Oct 23. Entree choices were not the usual, which was nice. Food was very good, with an Asian and African flair. Not my cup of tea, but what I had (tastes like chicken) was really good, and my wife and friends loved it. Solid choice.

Food, variety

California Grill is a must-do for every trip for us, and this time, with friends, and the Halloween fireworks, it lived up to its reputation. Food was amazing, and service is always superb. Can't beat the view or the atmosphere. Only negative is that it wasn't quite as good as Jiko was the night before, which isn't a negative at all. This one shall remain on the list for every trip.

Pros:

Food, atmosphere

Cons:

Not as good as Jiko

This place remains a hidden gem. Had completely unnecessary reservations for lunch, and I just continue to wonder why this place isn't packed. The menu, perhaps? If so, then people are missing out. Stuffed grape leaves? Delicious. Lamb sausage? Incredible. Lamb sliders - according to my friend - also wonderful. Service was great; chef came out to discuss an allergy, and was so accommodating. Just a great place.

Pros:

Food, view

Yes. it's loud, which I was prepared for by reading the reviews below. But I was hopeful that the new design would be impressive, or that Guy Fieri's menu would be inspired. Wrong on both accounts. Like him or hate him, Fieri is famous and successful enough that he has to have some legitimate talent. But the menu was uninspired. Food was okay, but just okay. But the real miss is in the newly designed building. Huge screens that show... well, nothing half the time, and music videos the rest of the time. How is this a good idea? I was expecting the ceiling to open out to the sky, or to have some cosmological theme. Nope. Just a mock telescope and regular ceiling. Such a waste. Don't bother. Too many other good places.

Pros:

not much

Cons:

design, menu
