Review of California Grill - Brunch at the Top

My family of 5 had brunch here on Sunday, July 2nd at 10 am. We checked in and were brought up to the top floor of the Contemporary Resort within about 10 minutes. The adults were given Mimosas before being seated, and the kids were offered white cranberry juice.
Our server was excellent, and we never lacked for anything. The pacing of the meal was perfect.
Before we ordered, we we told to help ourselves at the buffet. The food was very good, and definitely the best meal of our trip.

We had dinner here at 5pm on the 4th of July. We were a party of 7. We were seated promptly at a table in front of a window with a view of the castle. The food and service was perfect! Being able to watch the fireworks from the porch was an added bonus, especially since it was the 4th of July...

My family of 5 had breakfast reservations here on the 4th of July at 9:15 am. This was the meal I was most looking forward to. The food was great, and the selection of offerings huge. There was so much to choose from, and everything we ate was delicious, and constantly being replenished.
However, our server was AWFUl. She spilled a pitcher of juice all over my daughter's right side, and then almost did it a second time down her back. She wasn't very apologetic, and it put a damper on the entire meal. She then proceeded to ignore us for the rest of the meal, while our plates stacked up and our drinks remained empty.
I later spoke to the manager, who was very apologetic, and credited our room charges $50, to cover the cost to buy my daughter a new outfit. This was very generous.
I would definitely give this place another try, simply because the food was so good...

Our party of 8 had lunch here on July 5th. We were seated on time, at 11:15. The food and service was awesome, and the price even better. This restaurant is truly under priced for a Disney table service.
The fried green tomato sandwich was divine, as were the loaded fries. The other members of my family enjoyed the mac and cheese, burgers, chicken sandwich and wedge salad. The ice cream was delicious too. A few of us took our shakes to go...
I've dined here twice now, and will be returning in the future...

It pains me to give BOG a negative review. I have dined here twice before, and loved every aspect of the experiences. That's why we made reservations again, 180 days out, at 6am.
This time service was awful from the moment we tried to check in. We were told it was too early and to come back in 20 minutes and wait in line again. Really?
Thank goodness, a woman overheard the CM telling us to come back and told us she WAS allowed to check in 20 minutes early for her reservation. This prompted me to seek out another CM named Caraleigh. She was the BEST part of the evening. She immediately called down to the restaurant, and not only checked us in early, but had us seated immediately as well. Side note, I already contacted WDW and complimented Caraleigh, who was presented with a certificate for her wonderful customer service.
Unfortunately, service from this point on went down hill fast...Our server was unfriendly, slow, and lacking in the customer service department. For a restaurant that was only half full, I expected a little more attention.
The food was AWFUL too. 3 of us ordered the steak and couldn't eat it, because it was full of fat. When I brought this up to our waitress, she just shrugged and walked away.
I later spoke to the manager, who asked us how things were as we were walking out. I was honest, and told him about out experience that night, and he apologized.
I would really like to give BOG another try, but I don't anticipate that happening any time soon...

Stopped in here twice on July 5th for a LeFou's Brew. It's honestly one of the best non alcoholic drinks in the MK, and it helps satisfy your thirst on a hot, summer day.

As you can see from my other reviews, we like this place A LOT!!!!! We make a point of having breakfast here every time we visit WDW. It was our last meal of the trip this time, and it was the perfect way to end our vacation. Food and service was awesome, and my party of 8 couldn't agree more. You know we will be back...

Our first room was very warm when we got back from the Magic Kingdom. The thermostat was set at 68 degrees and the room temp was 78. We called maintenance and they came to check it out. It was midnight when they got there. The a/c unit was putting out cold air and they disabled the thermostat for the night in hopes that the room would cool down with the ceiling fan running and the doors shut going to the bathroom area. Unfortunately when we woke up the next morning we were all hot and the room wasn't any cooler. We called maintenance again and we were moved to a ground floor room in the next building. This was fine with us and the bell hops helped move our luggage. The bell hops and maintenance told us our original room was hot and they didn't know what was wrong with it. In the end it was handled very well.
The rooms are good size and the pull down bed was perfect for our 10 year old as he loved it. The mousekeeper's took his blanket that he brought with him and used it when they made his bed along with his stuff animal that he brought. He thought it was great. The rooms are very quiet which was another plus.
The bus transportation was horrible. One day we waited for an hour for a bus to go to the Animal Kingdom. During the wait we saw 3 busses for MK, 2 for Epcot and Hollywood Studio's, and 1 for internal. We almost missed our fastpass at Animal Kingdom. At MK the busstop is 32 out of 34 busstops so it is the furthers away. Only Pop Century is further away. We waited over 30 minutes for bus at MK and watched 3 busses pick up at Pop and other All-Star Resorts to the 1 for CB. At the other parks the bus is closer and the wait wasn't near as bad.
We did eat breakfast at CB one morning and we were not impressed at all with it. We realize that it is temporary and they are doing the best they can with what they have to work with. It was good but the selection wasn't the greatest, especially after eating at 1900 Parkfare and other Disney buffet's.
Another con on this resort is that during the renovations all the snack bars and dining options are closed around 10 pm. Our 17 year old wanted something to eat or snack on one night and walked around the entire property only to find out the vending machines were the only thing available. After this, we made sure we got a snack before we left the park each night. We were informed that after the renovations are over that the dining and snack options would be opened later.
We have stayed at other Disney Resorts in the past and have had balloon's delivered to the room for our kids for some type of celebration. This trip we were celebrating our 17 year old's graduation which was noted and mention at our check-in. We asked for balloon's to be delivered to the room for him at some point during the week when we checked in. We were told it would be taken care of and never did get them.
We will probably give CB another try in the future as we liked the queen size beds and the seclusion that this resort provides. Hopefully when the renovations are done the experience will be better.

We have debated eating here several times using the Disney Dining plan. Now that our kids are little older and out of the character experiences we decided to give it a try. Everything exceeded our expectations. All the food was great and the service was very good. We left there and wasn't hungry for hours.

After having a bad experience our last visit we had decided we were not going to go here this time. However it is our oldest son's favorite place to eat so we decided to give it a try. The food was great. The character's were very good this time, as last time we had to wait and even ask to see the characters. This time the rotation was broken because as a cast member said "Chip and Dale had a party and forgot to invite the boss Mickey. The party got a little wild and they broke the gears that make the place rotate." Chip and Dale both laughed about it.
A tip though, ask to sit on the lower level in a booth. After visiting here several times it seems that the characters visit the lower level more often than the upper level.
