Luckily, there are some super fun and unique things to do around the Disney World hotels that are totally FREE!

Yehaa Bob at Port Orleans Riverside

For a fun evening filled with live music and comedy, head over to River Roost Lounge at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside to catch a performance by Yehaa Bob Jackson! Yehaa Bob is a local legend who has played at Port Orleans for years. His shows are lively and interactive, and he plays a range of music, including Disney favorites, songbook classics, and kid-friendly tunes.

He performs in the River Roost Lounge near the lobby of Port Orleans — Riverside, and while you can order drinks and appetizers during the show for an additional cost, the show itself is totally free.

He performs on select nights throughout the week, so be sure to check the show times on the Disney World website or app before your trip to plan accordingly. Just keep in mind that he has quite a following, so you’ll want to get there early because seating can fill up fast!

Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long at Fort Wilderness

Every night after dark, Chip ‘n’ Dale swing by Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort for an adorable campfire sing-along!

Guests can bring their own marshmallows to roast, or buy a s’mores kit from the Chuckwagon Snack Bar nearby, and enjoy their sweet treats while singing along to old-time favorites led by a guitar-playing cowpoke.

And, as a bonus, once the campfire is over, the fun continues with a classic Disney movie played in an outdoor theater under the stars!

Movies Under the Stars

Fort Wilderness isn’t the only place you can catch a classic Disney movie in the fresh evening air! Most Disney World hotels offer “Movies Under the Stars,” a complimentary Disney movie shown on a large outdoor screen. In many cases, a movie is offered each night, although schedules vary by hotel and date.

Movies are rotated regularly, so you could come back to this activity a few times during your trip to enjoy several different fan-favorite Disney films.

The schedules are updated each week, so remember to check with the front desk when you arrive to see which movies are showing at your hotel during your stay!

Animal Viewing at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

One of the best perks at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is getting to see the animals that live on-site as they hang out right outside the rooms and guest areas!

Animal Kingdom Lodge

Granted, you won’t see as many animals here as you would at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park on Kilimanjaro Safaris and the various animal trails. But still, it’s pretty incredible that guests can check out many of the same species at Animal Kingdom Lodge with no park ticket needed!

Views from Sanaa

This is one of the most unique hotel activities that Disney World has to offer, and we’ll never get tired of seeing a giraffe out the window while we’re dining at Sanaa!

Electrical Water Pageant at Magic Kingdom Area Hotels

The Electrical Water Pageant is a cool, vintage nighttime show that takes place on Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon. During the 15-minute show, a variety of whimsical, illuminated sea creatures float by to a soundtrack of Disney songs. The show concludes with a salute to America with flags and stars, set to a patriotic musical medley.

The Electrical Water Pageant takes place after dark each night (be sure to check with the front desk for the show time during your stay), and it’s visible from the shores of the Magic Kingdom area hotels, including Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

Seasonal Holiday Displays

If you’re traveling to Disney World around a major holiday, you might actually find some of the coolest decor outside the parks! Several of the hotels are known for going all-in with holiday displays. The massive gingerbread houses and creations at several of the resorts around Christmas time are a prime example! The hotels that offer gingerbread displays can change from year to year, but one of the longstanding staples we regularly see is the life-size Grand Floridian Gingerbread House (we will share details on if/when it will return this year as soon as we know).

Other hotels have also become known for hosting unique gingerbread creations of their own, like the Contemporary Resort’s Gingerbread Cookie Castle and Beach Club’s Gingerbread Carousel.

And, of course, there are the Christmas trees in the hotel lobbies, which are all intricately decorated and themed to the specific hotel!

While Christmas is one of the most decor-heavy holidays, it’s not the only one with fun hotel displays. Near Easter, some of the hotels host intricately decorated Easter egg displays, which feature some seriously impressive designs!

If you’re visiting Disney World near a holiday, be sure to keep a sharp eye out as you walk through the hotel common areas, since holiday decor updates each year and can include some mind-blowing pieces that we could browse for hours.

These awesome Disney World activities are proof that sometimes the best things in life really are free! Each Disney World hotel has a rotating list of activities — both free and paid — that updates weekly, so be sure to ask the front desk when you check in to see what’s on offer during your vacation.
