We’ve Waited SO LONG for the Return of This Secret Universal Orlando Experience

Universal Orlando‘s CityWalk is full of tons of various restaurants and shops that are fun to explore, but when we heard that there was a speakeasy returning to the location, we added it to the TOP of our must-do list!

It’s time to head to a speakeasy!

Pat O’Brien’s is a restaurant in CityWalk that gives you a taste of Bourbon Street thanks to the delicious menu, but you can also enjoy dueling piano players as you chow down on Cajun delights. While this speakeasy is located at the restaurant, it’s totally separate, and let’s just say, it’s an experience we’ll never forget!

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the speakeasy — in fact, it was around last year, back in March, and we’re so thrilled it’s back! You really get the whole experience here, including needing a password to get in.

This spot is officially called 600 Block, and it’s only for guests 21+. It’ll be open Thursdays through Sundays starting at 6 PM, and will remain open through August! We spoke to a few managers throughout the night who told us that they’re hoping to make this a year-round thing, which is partly why they involve multiple bartenders and chefs.

There is seating available inside, but we chose to sit outside, which meant that we got to hear the piano music from downstairs at the restaurant! It made people watching around CityWalk even more fun and pleasant as we ate. However, if you’re inside, you can enjoy music performed by a jazz musician, as well as the slightly smoky atmosphere that really enhances the speakeasy atmosphere.

Our first drink was the Sirloin Sazerac for $21, which is sirloin-infused pigs’ back, rye whiskey, Pierre Ferrand Cognac, sugar, bitters, and a rinse of absinthe. This was a very balanced drink, and we can see why it’s one of their signature cocktails! You get the cognac at the front with this sweetness that sticks around in your mouth, then you get the smoke from the sirloin at the end. The absinthe wash adds an aromatic quality that’s pleasant, but there’s none of the anise flavor that most people attribute to absinthe. It actually adds more body to the drink and seasoning to the sirloin, which we didn’t expect to say, but we loved it!

We also grabbed the Gilded Old Fashioned for $21, which is knob creek bourbon, rose champagne syrup, and bitters. If you want a beautifully balanced old fashioned, this is the drink to grab. The champagne syrup adds a little sweetness, but thanks to the two different kinds of bitters used, the sweetness is taken down a notch. This isn’t an overly sweet drink, but it’s also not too strong with alcohol that would creep up on you.

There are also bites to eat, and we knew we had to snag the Deviled Eggs for $7.95. The eggs are cooked to perfection, and the filling is super light and airy. The mustard flavor comes through pretty strongly, and the bacon on top adds some additional smokiness that we enjoyed, as well as a great textural difference. In fact, these are some of the best Deviled Eggs we’ve had in a LONG time!

Finally, we also grabbed the Millionaire Bacon for $13.95, which is bourbon and chocolate covered bacon on skewers. Ours didn’t come on skewers, but the bacon had a beautiful texture that was a mix between chewy and crunchy. The chocolate was incredibly rich, and while we couldn’t taste the bourbon explicitly, we do think it was a big part of making the chocolate as rich as it was, and helped cut through the sweetness. It paired wonderfully with the cocktails, but we do feel that it’s a tiny bit overpriced for only getting three strips of bacon!
