The $702 Hotel Disney Fans Are Calling “Very Boring with Mediocre Dining”

Listen, there’s no denying that we Disney fans have strong opinions when it comes to all things Disney. That’s definitely true when we’re talking about the Disney hotels.

Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Whether it’s about location, theming, or food, everyone has that one resort they’ll defend to the end — or one they’d rather never stay at again. This is why we recently asked you, over on Facebook, “What’s your FAVORITE Disney World hotel?” As always, you guys had plenty to say. While some fans shouted out classics like the Polynesian Village Resort or Wilderness Lodge, one response really stood out to us — especially because it wasn’t exactly glowing.

Our reader Aurora didn’t hold back, sharing, “Yacht & Beach are very boring resorts with mediocre dining carried very hard by location and a popular pool imo.” And that, friends, is how we found ourselves diving into one of the most debated hotel pairs in Disney World: Disney’s Yacht Club and Beach Club Resorts—the $702-per-night (and up!) sister properties that somehow manage to be both beloved and boring, depending on who you ask. Let’s break down the debate.

The Case for “Boring with Mediocre Dining”

At first glance, it’s easy to see where Aurora is coming from. The Yacht and Beach Clubs definitely give off a refined vibe — think nautical charm, muted blues and creams, and understated elegance rather than Disney whimsy. If you’re looking for in-your-face theming like the colorful Pop Century or the adventurous Animal Kingdom Lodge, this might feel a little too… calm.

Yacht Club

And when it comes to dining, the options can feel limited if you’re staying on property for several days. Sure, you’ve got Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, which is a fan favorite for a burger and the famous Kitchen Sink sundae, and Cape May Café, which serves up a solid character breakfast. But beyond that, the resort’s dining lineup tends to take a back seat to what’s available just a short walk away in EPCOT’s World Showcase.

Beaches and Cream

Even one of our AllEars reviewers agreed that while the resort is beautiful, the best dining options are elsewhere. AEUser-6aa50f rated Beach Club a perfect 10 but still admitted,

“Some of the best dining is in EPCOT or Yacht Club and price is def steep.”

So yes — if you’re comparing on-site dining to other deluxe resorts (like the Polynesian’s ‘Ohana or the Grand Floridian’s Narcoossee’s), the options at Yacht and Beach might feel a little underwhelming.

But Here’s the Thing — The Pros Are Very Hard to Ignore

Even the biggest critics will tell you: the location and pool are unbeatable.

The quick walk to the International Gateway entrance into EPCOT from the EPCOT resorts.

You’re within walking distance of both EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, meaning no need to rely solely on buses or boats (though you can use those, too). You’re right next to the Disney Skyliner station at EPCOT’s International Gateway. And that proximity makes it easy to hop between the parks — or grab dinner in World Showcase and stroll back to your room afterward.

An Anonymous AE reader gave Yacht Club a 10/10, writing,

“It has expensive nautical vibes and it’s close to 2/4 Disney parks which is a win win. It also provides about 3 methods of transportation.”

For them, there was “no con to this hotel.”

And we can’t talk about Yacht & Beach Club without mentioning Stormalong Bay, the massive 3-acre pool complex shared between the two resorts. It’s often considered the best pool on Disney property, complete with a lazy river, sand-bottom floor, and one seriously cool pirate ship waterslide. It’s such a highlight that many guests plan full resort days just to enjoy it.

Stormalong Bay at Yacht and Beach Club

Even MisterToadsWildBride, who rated the Yacht Club an 8/10, said the “proximity to Epcot and Hollywood Studios really makes this one of the better places to stay,” and added, “the pool, Stormalong Bay, is fantastic.”

Not Everyone Is a Fan, Though

Of course, not every stay goes smoothly. One Anonymous AE reader rated Beach Club just 3 stars out of 10, calling it “far too large” and sharing that “you have to walk at least 1/2 mile… it was a miserable stay.”

Beach Club

That reviewer’s main issue wasn’t food or theming—it was size and layout. The sprawling design means long walks to parking lots and amenities, which can be frustrating if you’re traveling with little ones or dealing with Florida’s heat.

So, What’s the Verdict?

When you average it all out, the Yacht & Beach Club resorts are a bit of a paradox. They’re sleek, quiet, and undeniably convenient—but for some guests, that sophistication borders on sterile.

Beach Club Resort

If you want something peaceful, elegant, and close to EPCOT, it’s a dream come true. But if you crave more of that classic Disney energy (and maybe a few more Mickey-shaped details), you might walk away thinking it’s just… fine.

Disney’s Yacht Club

Aurora might be onto something when she says the resort is “carried very hard by location and a popular pool.” For many guests, that’s more than enough to justify the $700+ price tag—but for others, it’s not quite the magic they’re looking for.

  1. The Yacht Club and Beach Club resorts are for those of us who want a quieter, relaxed, normal hotel stay. Plus they have amenities that the other WDW do not have – like pickle ball courts, et. There are times however, when you want to stay at the loud and crowded Poly, Contemporary and the somewhat loud, busy Wilderness Lodge, but some people just want to relax and enjoy their vacation. The restaurants at the YC are excellent. The Beach Club is definitely family fare.

  2. Yacht Club in particular still has the same customer service and eager to please cast members all the resorts used to have. It can be refreshing.
