We don’t know about you, but we’re pretty huge fans of The Muppets here at AllEars. So, when we found out that Disney would be closing Muppets Courtyard to make way for a Monsters Inc. land, we were disappointed about the loss.

But then, Disney shared that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster would be getting a Muppets re-theme, and we were excited once again. Disney also announced the return of The Muppet Show coming soon, and so we’re hereby declaring 2026 the Year of The Muppets.
“It’s time to play the music… It’s time to light the lights… It’s time to meet the Muppets on the Muppet Show tonight!” That’s right, Disney recently shared that although the last episode of The Muppet Show aired in 1981, the show is coming back with a brand-new variety show “filled with music, comedy, and plenty of chaos.”

Sabrina Carpenter will be a special guest star for this special, which will be coming to Disney+ in 2026. While we are thrilled about the return of The Muppet Show, albeit brief, we’re also cautious about being too hopeful.

And, of course, there is also the retheming of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith into a coaster that features The Muppets. Disney shared that it all starts with the Electric Mayhem, who are headlining their biggest concert EVER. There’s just one big problem: no one knows where the band is.

Meanwhile, G-Force Records will be looking a little different because the Muppets have officially taken over, with some help from Scooter’s uncle, real estate tycoon and owner of the Muppet Theatre, J.P. Grosse.

Outside G-Force Records, the large guitar has been given a groovy, colorful makeover inspired by Electric Mayhem’s van. The piano motif at the base will feature a golden key “as a nod to a certain far-out band leader.”
You can check out even more details about the new ride here, and while we’re excited — we just hope there’s ENOUGH Muppets in the attraction.

Essentially, the Year of The Muppets is actually just fans being overly anxious about how Disney might accidentally screw up our favorite characters.

We have several Muppet fans on our team, and they had plenty of thoughts about what’s coming in 2026. Breedlove said, “If these projects don’t match the standards of the early films and MuppetVision, then Disney will have ruined my childhood. That’s all.”

Another member of our team said, “Thank you for the ride and show, but don’t for a SECOND think that I’m gonna forget about what you did to MuppetVision.”
And, we can’t argue with this demand: “I don’t want a hint of Muppets. I don’t want a Muppet trickle. I need a Muppet deluge. I need over-the-top maximum effort on Muppets on this.”

We can’t wait for 2026 to be the Year of The Muppets, but we are hoping that both the ride and the show live up to our expectations — even if they’re a little high. What can we say? We’re Muppets fans, after all.
We’ll be on the lookout for more Muppets news and beyond. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney news and more.
