The Muppets have seen a bit of a resurgence recently, even after Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D closed in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Disney World. Granted, The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, though.

But, yes, The Muppets are still as popular as ever, so much so that Disney has announced the return of The Muppet Show with a Disney+ special that will star none other than pop princess Sabrina Carpenter.
That’s right — although the last episode of The Muppet Show aired in 1981, the show is coming back with a brand-new variety show “filled with music, comedy, and plenty of chaos.” That’s all of our favorite things! And Sabrina Carpenter will be a special guest star for this event, which will be coming to Disney+ in 2026.

The special will celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary, but, hey, who knows…if it does well, maybe we’ll get even more episodes? Several Muppets-themed shows have come and gone since then, including the most recent, The Muppets Mayhem, which was canceled by Disney after one season.

However, it seems there’s still demand for The Muppets, so we’re hoping that the new special episode of The Muppet Show reinvigorates the franchise ahead of The Muppets making the move to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney World. In my personal opinion, you can never have too much Muppets content.

Why We’re Worried About The Muppets Taking Over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney World
What do you think? Will you be watching this new ‘Muppet Show’ event? Let us know in the comments!

They just never learn. As a Muppets fan since the early 80’s, even I can admit that the Muppets brand died with Jim Henson. Not one single Muppets-based project since his death has been any good. It’s not even solely about the revolving door of voice changes for the characters, it’s the humor that is no longer there. Whether it’s the jokes with the too-obvious punchlines (and badly executed) or lame attempts at being current and hip, they just don’t work anymore for me. I applaud the desire to keep them alive, but they just can’t come close to that special something JH and his fellow performers had decades ago. I’m just glad we’ll always have the original Muppet Show and first 3 movies to enjoy…..and they still hold up today.
What I want Disney World to do is to relocate Current Disney Junior Characters starting September 25th (next week); because they don’t deserve to be removed from the parks. Hopefully my favorite Character Doc McStuffins will return meet and greet times!
