As your local vegan food expert, I’ve tried just about every vegan dish I can get my hands on across Disney World. There’s been some winners and some that won’t make my top ten list.

When word got around with the AllEars cast that there was a new vegan dish to try, you know I was running right over.
I headed to the Landscape of Flavors at Disney’s Art of Animation to try the Plant-Based Ramen Noodle Bowl with “Meatballs” for $12.99. It’s served with fresh vegetables in a miso broth.

Right off the bat, I was happy to see how full the bowl was. It’s packed with tons of ramen, as well as vegetables like bok choy, carrots, green onions, mushrooms, corn, and sweet red and orange peppers. Despite it being Florida, it felt like a comforting meal for a rainy day — we just need to ignore the heat.

Beyond that, we started to encounter issues. The broth was extremely bland, and you’ll have to put in your own work to get it to taste the way you want. I prefer ramen that is packed with intense flavor, and this was not it.

They had soy sauce and hot sauce available, and two packets later, I started to get the real taste of ramen that I know to love. The flavors of the vegetables started to shine through, and although I originally thought I wasn’t a fan of the vegan meatballs, I began to enjoy their taste after a bit of doctoring.

One strange part of the dish was that, although it was vegan, when I was served it, a soft-boiled egg was on top, just as it is for the chicken or beef version. When I went back to check that it was Vegas (and ask how they managed to soft-boil a vegan egg), I was told that it was a real egg placed by mistake. While mistakes do happen, you might want to clarify that you don’t want the egg if you’re planning on ordering it fully vegan.

Overall, I loved the fresh elements in the dish and how I could grab it at a quick-service restaurant at a Value Resort. That never happens! For $12.99, it was a good amount of food, and once you take the time to add your own soy sauce and hot sauce to your taste, it really started to taste like real ramen.
Don’t be surprised if you see me back at the Art of Animation ordering it again. Maybe I’ll see you there! In the meantime, make sure you’re following AllEars for more food reviews for your Disney trip.
