The Disney Skyliner may look like a simple gondola ride, but it has quickly become one of the most beloved (and sometimes stressful) forms of transportation around Disney World.

This system connects EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and a handful of Disney resorts, giving guests a scenic view while they travel. But as convenient as it is, we’ve noticed a few habits from fellow riders that can really ruin the experience. If you’re planning to hop on the Skyliner soon, here are six things we’re literally begging Disney adults to stop doing.
If you’re looking for a travel agent to help with your vacation, we recommend our friends at Mouse Fan Travel. They’re experts in the field with over 20 years of vacation planning experience, and they can help take a bunch of the stress out of the entire booking process for you!
Taking Their Shoes Off Mid-Ride
Yes, it happens more often than you’d think. People get comfortable, kick off their sandals, and suddenly you’re stuck in a small box in the sky with someone else’s bare toes on display. It may not feel like a big deal to the person doing it, but for everyone else, it’s pretty unpleasant.

Shoes protect against more than germs—they also keep the space respectful and clean. If your feet are hurting after a long park day, we get it. But please, wait until you’re in your hotel room to let them breathe.
Riding When You’re Feeling Sick
The Skyliner is smooth most of the time, but if it pauses mid-air—and it does from time to time—that gentle swaying can turn into your worst nightmare if you’re already nauseous.

We’ve seen guests get off looking green, and in a few unfortunate cases, Cast Members have had to pull cabins out of service to clean up after sick riders. Not only is that miserable for you, but it also delays operations for everyone else. If you’re feeling woozy, opt for a bus, boat, or rideshare instead. You’ll be happier, and your cabin-mates will be spared the stress of sitting next to someone who might lose their Mickey pretzel mid-flight.
Panicking During the Ride
The Skyliner goes high, and if you’re not a fan of heights, that first lift-off can make your stomach drop. Add in a little swaying when the wind picks up, and suddenly some riders start to spiral. While the nerves are understandable, panicking mid-ride doesn’t help anyone.

The Skyliner is very safe—Disney wouldn’t run it otherwise. Cast Members monitor the system constantly, and the cables are built to handle far more than the gentle rocking you feel. If you’re nervous, try focusing on the view instead: you can spot Tower of Terror, Spaceship Earth, and even catch a peek at fireworks depending on the time of day. A calm cabin makes the ride a whole lot more enjoyable for everyone.
Sitting on the Floor
It may seem harmless to plop down when you’re tired, but this is a big no. Not only is sitting on the floor against Disney’s rules, but it’s also unhygienic.

The gondola floors see strollers, muddy shoes, and everything guests track in from the parks. Plus, if an emergency did occur and the doors needed to open, someone sitting on the floor would be right in the way. The benches inside each cabin are there for a reason—use them. You’ll be more comfortable, and you won’t gross out the strangers sitting across from you.
Leaving a Mess Behind
We cannot stress this enough: clean up after yourself. We’ve seen everything from spilled popcorn to empty soda cups left behind on the benches, and it’s just not fair to the Cast Members or the next group riding.

A messy cabin sometimes means the gondola has to be pulled out of service so it can be cleaned, which slows down the whole system. Imagine waiting in line an extra 15 minutes because someone couldn’t hold on to their churro wrapper. Disney provides trash cans at every station—there’s no excuse not to toss your garbage on the way out.
Getting Turned Around at the Wrong Station
Even frequent Skyliner riders get tripped up sometimes, and one of our own AllEars writers learned this the hard way. She hopped on the Skyliner at EPCOT for what was supposed to be a quick loop. The plan was simple: ride to Disney’s Riviera Resort, hop off, and head straight back to EPCOT. But mid-ride, she forgot to get off. Instead, she stayed on and ended up heading all the way to Caribbean Beach Resort—the Skyliner’s main hub.

That one missed stop meant she had to get off, rejoin the line for EPCOT, pass Riviera again, and retrace her steps. While it wasn’t a huge deal, it definitely ate up extra time and made the trip more stressful than it needed to be.

The moral of the story? The Skyliner can be confusing, even for people who ride it nearly every day. If you’re not sure which direction to take, don’t just wing it. Check the map at the station, listen closely to the announcements, or ask a Cast Member before you board. A few seconds of clarity can save you from an accidental detour that eats up precious park time.

The Skyliner is one of the most magical ways to get around Disney World—floating above the resorts with the wind in your hair feels like an attraction all its own. But with so many people relying on it daily, a little courtesy goes a long way. By keeping your shoes on, avoiding it when you’re sick, staying calm, sitting properly, cleaning up, and paying attention to stations, you’ll help make the experience smooth and pleasant for everyone.
