REVIEW: This Disney World Rice Bowl Is Our New Fixation Meal

Here at AllEars, we know all the ins and outs of Disney World dining locations — and we aren’t afraid to tell you where to eat, and where to not! We recently stopped by Harambe Market at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and we’re bringing you our FULL review!

Background

Harambe Market is themed to look like an East African Marketplace, and it’s located in Africa inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom. From the rock work, to the building design, to the details all around you — it really immerses you into being at an African Marketplace.

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

You’ll find the dining location very close to the Kilimanjaro Sarfaris, so you can relax and go look at some animals after eating here. The marketplace is also right beside the Wildlife Express Train that takes you to Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

It’s a quick service location, so a great option to get a quick meal or snack. It’s a popular spot for guests at Animal Kingdom, but it never feels too busy, which is great. The food is also a little cheaper than if you were to eat at a table-service restaurant. We think this is a good spot to bring kids too for that reason!

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

First up, we grabbed the Chicken and Shrimp Rice Bowl for $15.99. This is chermoula-marinated chicken and peri peri-marinated shrimp on jollof rice, with kachumbari tomato salad and tzatziki sauce.

Starting off strong, this was amazing! We would happily get it over and over again, thanks to how well the chicken and shrimp complemented each other. The flavor of both meats was herbaceous, and they weren’t dry.  The rice was also very flavorful and even had a bit of a kick to it.

They didn’t hold back on the veggies and tzatziki, making it feel lighter and refreshing. They also added a nice crunch as a nice textural element. We’re craving another one right now!

Couldn’t forget the greens, so we tried the Caesar Salad for $9.99. The salad was fresh romaine lettuce tossed in a house-made Caesar dressing, with tomato and grated parmesan.

The dish was actually a pretty good size for the price! You can add chicken to this dish, which we would prefer if we grab this one again. The lettuce was fresh and crispy, the tomatoes were bright, and the croutons were crunchy! It had some amazing textural elements, which you can’t always guarantee in a Disney salad.

It also had a nice balance of dressing and salad without being soggy at all. We would definitely make sure to add the chicken next time for a more full meal.

We also tried the Impossible™ Kofta Pita for $13.49. It was an Impossible™ Kofta with a plant-based aioli, chermoula, and house-made chips.

This one was another pleasant surprise! The plant-based dish offered a nice kick in the beginning, but the spice died out as we continued to eat. The aioli made the entire thing nice and flavorful. The impossible meat was a bit too soft for our liking, and the pita bread was a bit too hard. You couldn’t necessarily tear this pita bread easily.

The flavors were really nice, but texturally, it didn’t hit the mark like we would have hoped. If you’re a plant-based eater, we think it could be a great one to try! To drink, we picked up the Frozen Flamingo for $6.49. It’s a non-alcoholic frozen concoction with flavors of strawberry and passion fruit.

This one reminded us of a strawberry lemonade but leaned heavily on the strawberry flavor. It melted quickly in the heat, so we would recommend drinking it quickly if you want a slushy. It was great on a hot day, but it was more juice than slushy by the time we got to the bottom.

• Want indoor seating
• Or want traditional theme park food

This spot has some of our favorite snacks in Disney World, like the fresh corn on the cob, and these new dishes are no different! It offers a break from the traditional theme park foods with high-quality and filling meals.
