BIG things could be happening soon in Disneyland. Not only will Tiana’s Bayou Adventure open later this year, but the DisneylandForward Initiative is moving forward to help Disneyland expand some of the land it already owns to bring new lands and new attractions to the resort.

Avatar has been mentioned several times as part of that expansion, and Disney even recently dropped some new concept art of what a potential Avatar-themed land would look like in Disneyland. In looking at that concept art, we think we’ve found some clues about it.
So here’s the concept art. One of the first things we noticed is that it looks decidedly different from Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Disney World. That version of Pandora takes inspiration from the first Avatar film. However, the concept art for Disneyland reveals a land that seems to take more inspiration from the second and most recent movie, Avatar: The Way of Water. There’s a lot of water in this concept art, after all.

For comparison, here’s a screenshot from Avatar: The Way of Water. In that film, this is the water and land of the Metkayina clan that Jake Sulley and his fellow refugees flock to after being attacked. Can you see the similarities?

The concept art also suggests that this land will have a LOT of water features, way more than what we see in Pandora in Disney World.
Another hint that we get from the concept art is that there’s a boat floating through the open waters. This suggests that the new land could contain a boat ride, but something a bit different from Disney World’s Na’vi River Journey.

Because this land seems so focused on the second Avatar movie, we’d also like to think the big structure on the left could be used to house an attraction similar to Flight of Passage in Disney World. However, if we had to guess, this would not be a simulation of flying on a banshee, but instead, something more like skimming water on a Skimwing, which is like a giant flying fish. How fun would that be?

Of course, we won’t know for sure what Disney has in mind until they officially announce this new land (right now, it’s only a potential for Disneyland’s expansion). We’ll be keeping an eye out for more details, though, so check back with AllEars again soon for more.
