There is no shortage of great Star Wars TV shows right now on Disney+. First, we got the live-action The Mandalorian, and then we got the live-action The Book Of Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, plus several new animated series.

We’ve got an Ahsoka series to look forward to, as well as Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Soon, we’ll be getting the Rogue One prequel series Andor, and we’ve got some brand NEW details to share with you about that show!
We were invited to a virtual press conference where we got to learn a little more about the series. Something that will separate Andor from other Star Wars stories is that it will show what the early days of the Rebellion were like, leading up to the events in Rogue One.
For Andor star Diego Luna, Andor tells a story that we haven’t seen yet in Star Wars. He said, “I think Rogue One is a film about an event. You don’t get to know those characters, you don’t get to understand exactly where they come from, what made it happen.” Luna stated that Andor will answer those questions from Rogue One and delve into how a revolutionary, someone who is willing to sacrifice himself for a cause, is born.

Executive producer, writer, and showrunner Tony Gilroy spoke about creating a series that will satisfy Star Wars fans and how the series will bring something completely different from what they’ve seen before. “This place is real to us, and we’ll bring a lot of things to that community we hope they’re really interested in, and we hope they really appreciate it.”

That includes bringing back familiar faces, including Mon Mothma, who appeared in two of the trilogy films, as well as in several of the animated shows. Genevieve Reilly, who portrayed Mon Mothma in Rogue One, reprises the role in Andor, but the character will be different from how we’ve previously seen her when she was the leader of the Rebellion, surrounded by like-minded people.
“We find her in Andor very alone, very living in a world of orthodoxy and construct,” Reilly said. “We see a woman who has had to navigate her ideals and her beliefs within systems of oppression. And so we find her in a place we’ve never seen her before — we find her in a bit of a gilded cage.”

The series will introduce some new characters, too, including Bix, as portrayed by actress Adria Arjona, who, as a Hispanic actress, was asked about being a part of a diverse cast. “It’s really exciting. And it sort of comes to show how things are sort of shifting. And I’m happy that Tony’s sort of brought me along, but it wasn’t part of the conversation, which was, I think, the most beautiful thing about it. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, you’re Hispanic.'”
Luna added, “You know, I think it makes sense if we’re talking about a galaxy where there’s so many planets that people come from, different places, you know.”

Most importantly, Andor is set up to be different from other Star Wars shows. “This is a show about people — real people.” Luna said. He pointed out that the series takes place during a dark period in the galaxy’s history, a time when there are no Jedi to swoop in and save the day.
He said, “These people are having to articulate a reaction to oppression, and it’s the most grounded kind of Star Wars you’ll get. It is a show about us. It is a show about these people finding the strength to come up with a reaction to change and bring change to their reality. It’s very inspiring.”
