NEWS: Disney and ESPN Get Exclusive Broadcast Rights To Select Football Games

Disney and entertainment go hand in hand, and that also includes sports!

Whether you prefer to participate in a runDisney marathon or curl up on the couch watching ESPN, Disney knows the importance of competitive sports. A new partnership is taking place between Disney and a young professional football league and Disney is getting exclusive broadcast rights. Here’s what we know!

The XFL, a professional football league founded in 2018 by Vince McMahon, recently announced a multi-year partnership with Disney and ESPN! This deal will give ABC, ESPN, and FX exclusive rights for broadcasts through 2027.

According to XFL’s announcement on Twitter, each season will include 43 games to be broadcasted and streamed to ABC, ESPN, and FX, and the content will also include tentpole events. Dany Garcia, chairwoman and owner of XFL, said, “To find a partner that honors our foundation and to be able to root our vision of unwavering passion, accessibility, and the future of football with Disney as our home, is a dream come true.”

This news comes after XFL was forced to declare bankruptcy in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down operations. Later that year Dwayne Johnson and his business partner Dany Garcia purchased XFL with a consortium with RedBird Capital.
