For the past few months, we’ve been getting used to the new Disney Genie and Genie+ system in Disney World.

It has been a whirlwind to figure out, with new rules, a lot of unique features, and extra fees to pay. And now, it’s time for that same system to premiere on the west coast — it arrived at Disneyland Resort today!
At Disneyland Resort, Disney Genie+ costs guests $20 per ticket, per day, instead of the $15 price tag at Walt Disney World. HOWEVER, you’ll also get the day’s PhotoPass photo downloads included with your purchase at Disneyland. (At Disney World, you get augmented reality lenses instead.)

Just like Disney World, the regular Genie offering here is free. However, the Individual Attraction Selections (what we’ve been calling “Fancy Rides”) could cost you anywhere from $7-$20 per ride. These are “pay per ride” to use the Lightning Lane and you can only book two of them each day. There are three options (which are NOT included in Genie+): Rise of the Resistance, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, and Radiator Springs Racers.

Here’s the pay-per-ride pricing that we saw today:
- Rise of the Resistance — $20 per person
- WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure — $7 per person
- Radiator Springs Racers — $7 per person
Keep in mind that these can change based on demand, with prices peaking during busier times of the year.

If you’re looking to use Genie, Genie+, or Individual Attraction Selections, you’ll just need to download the Disneyland Resort app. If you already have the app, you’ll want to make sure that it’s updated to use the new features.

Another difference that you’ll want to note if you’re using Genie+ and IAS at Disneyland is that here, you can’t purchase Genie+ or select any Lightning Lanes until after you enter your chosen park for the day. And, the free Genie service isn’t available in the app until 7AM. This is regardless of whether or not you’re staying on property.

The launch of Genie+ in Disneyland Resort hasn’t been without issues, though. We were able to easily use both Genie+ and IAS throughout our morning in the park. However, around 10AM, Disney Genie went down in the Disneyland app so we were unable to use any of the features, including booking new Lightning Lanes. We spoke with a Cast Member who shared that the server was being reset and the feature should be back online soon.
Additionally, the DAS program (or Disability Access Service) was shut down in the Disneyland app a little before 11AM and Cast Members were issuing physical tickets for DAS return times instead.
We’ll keep an eye out for updates!
