NEWS: Amazon Gets Exclusive Rights to Thursday Night Football as NFL Finalizes 11-Year Media Rights Deal

It’s been an interesting year for sports!

The NBA had a season inside the “Disney bubble”, there was no Super Bowl parade at Disney World, and many different teams played without audiences in their stadiums. Now, things are switching up even more for the NFL as a new 11-year media deal has changed where games will air!

With this new agreement, the NFL is renewing TV rights with all of its existing broadcast partners but adding a new provider — Amazon Prime Video. According to CNBC, Amazon is paying around $1 billion per year and will get the exclusive streaming rights for Thursday Night Football.

Other companies included in the deal are ViacomCBS, Fox, and Comcast, who are each paying more than $2 billion, while Disney is paying around $2.7 billion. Fox was the previous owner of the Thursday Night Football package, and they are expected to be saving $660 million. It’s estimated that they will only be losing about $440 million without these games.

As far as the deal goes for Disney, they will now get the chance to air 23 games throughout the season. Anything they air on ABC or ESPN can then be added to ESPN+. Disney will be airing two Super Bowl games throughout the 11-year run.
