Shanghai Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland have re-opened its gates to guests to experience the magic again!

Since there are new health and safety guidelines and circumstances that keep changing around the world, Disney has had to make many difficult choices regarding its company, including this latest one concerning their Disney English program.
According to Shine News, Disney English will be closing its locations in China. Disney English offers immersive classes that featured storytelling, singing, and interactive games as the learning centers educated over 100,000 children ages 2 through 12.

After opening Disney’s first location in Shanghai in 2008, Disney English has built 26 learning centers around China. Classes closed their in-person meeting in January as a health and safety precaution. Soon afterward, online classes were offered to guests beginning March 19th.

The Walt Disney Company Executive Vice President Mahesh Samat has noted its customers have preferred the online learning format more. He has stated that “Over the past few years, we have noticed a shift in consumer preferences toward online learning experiences and this trend has been accelerated by the global pandemic as families are hesitant to resume in-person supplemental learning classes.”

After considering the safety of everyone and the preferences of consumers, Samat said that “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to not reopen the centers. We are ensuring that each family of a Disney English learner is refunded accordingly, and we are taking care of each and every one of our affected cast members.”

Since Disney has decided to close its locations, they will be giving customers the opportunity to apply for refunds through July 21st. If they choose to visit the learning centers in person, guests will need to make an appointment. They will also need to wear masks, provide their health QR codes, and show their bank cards, ID cards, and contracts in order to receive refunds.

Since situations around the world have been changing constantly, Disney locations have had to continue to adapt. We will update you with any information you need to know!
