Orange County Mayor Plans Economic Exploration Team for Reopening Businesses, With Hopes of Walt Disney Company Joining

With Orange County currently under a stay-at-home order, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings has begun looking to take first steps to explore the reopening of some businesses in the face of the current global health crisis.

According to ClickOrlando, Mayor Demings has stated plans to start assembling an “economic exploration team” to explore these possible next steps. One business he’d like involved in those discussions? The Walt Disney Company.

While speaking with reporters, Demings expressed a wish to assemble a team of “40 to 45 people”, which would include business leaders in various sectors of Orlando’s economy.

Since Disney World is such a large part of Orlando’s economy, along with Orange County’s largest employer, Demings suggested that the company would likely have plenty of advice on how to “slowly turn the key to reopening”.

Demings continued by pointing out Disney’s experience with Asia, who were at the epicenter of the health crisis. “They’ve experienced some things — in terms of the planning process — that I believe could be beneficial and constructive to us as we begin to respond to the very uniqueness of our county,” Demings said.

At this time, no set team has been announced, though Demings shared that he hopes to have a task force unveiled tomorrow, April 17th.
