4 Important Rules To Know Before Visiting EPCOT’s UK Pavilion

On the surface, the United Kingdom Pavilion may appear to be one of the lighter ones in EPCOT’s World Showcase.

However, there is still plenty guests should know about EPCOT’s take on the U.K. before their next visit.

There’s No Ride

Let’s begin with something the U.K. Pavilion is lacking: A ride. However, that wasn’t always meant to be the case. During the park’s early years, there were plans for a Thames River Cruise dark ride that would bring guests past the Tower of London, Big Ben, and the Houses of Parliament. However, like many World Showcase ride concepts, the idea never made it past the blue sky design phase.

Decades later, another ride was announced for the pavilion. At the 2019 D23 Expo, Dick Van Dyke himself was brought on stage to announce that a Mary Poppins attraction (later revealed to be an indoor teacup-style attraction) was going to be added to the U.K. Pavilion as part of EPCOT’s then-ongoing reimagination. However, following the COVID-19 pandemic, the ride was cut.

According to a Disney spokesperson, “As with most businesses during this period, we are further evaluating long-term project plans. The decision was made to postpone development of the Mary Poppins-inspired attraction…” and that was the end of that.

There’s No “Official” Afternoon Tea

Despite Afternoon Tea being a major part of British culture, there’s currently no official afternoon tea offering in the U.K. pavilion.

Tea!

There is no official afternoon tea offered currently, but some guests have a DIY alternative at the Rose & Crown. First, they’re booking early afternoon reservations at the Rose & Crown, roughly in time for afternoon tea. Then, arguably most importantly, they’re ordering tea. Specifically, the Rose & Crown offers Twinings Hot Tea for $4.49.

As far as food, Rose & Crown doesn’t currently offer any traditional tea sandwiches. However, here is some lighter fare like the plant-based $25 Tikka Masala (A blend of seasonal vegetables in a curry sauce served with Basmati Rice and naan) or the $13.00 Coronation Salad (Crisp salad with green apple chutney, radish, and onion bhaji topped with Madras dressing). Of course, some guests eschew anything light whatsoever, instead going for the traditional Fish & Chips, Bangers & Mash, and Shepherd’s Pie.

Appreciate Architecture Through the Ages

If one pays attention, the architectural history of Great Britain can be traced through the pavilion’s buildings. There are Tudor, Georgian, and Victorian styles.

The U.K.

There are also recreations of iconic structures, including Hampton Court Palace and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, as well as a hedge maze and a bandstand. Speaking of that bandstand…

Dance to the Music!

The U.K. Pavilion has had a long tradition of musical performances in its bandstand. Currently, the band Command Performance unleashes the electrifying energy of classic cover songs originally created by Billy Idol, Led Zeppelin, and other legends from the United Kingdom who shaped music on the world stage.

  1. You forgot one other very important point.

It is the United Kingdom pavilion and not the England pavilion.
