There are very few things in this world we take more seriously than Disney World chicken tenders. They are reliable. They are crunchy. They ask nothing of us except a little ranch and a dream. They have carried us through many a questionable quick-service meal, and frankly, we trust them more than we trust most theme park burgers.

So when we tell you there is a sandwich in Disney’s Hollywood Studios that made us look at those beloved chicken tendies and say, “Hang on…just a second,” you need to understand the magnitude of that statement. This is not casual praise. This is not a fling. This is a full-blown food plot twist.
If you’re heading to Backlot Express and instinctively hovering over the safest option on the menu, allow us to gently, lovingly, and with a little dramatic flair, push you toward the Cuban sandwich instead. Because this thing? It’s actually worth your attention.

Yes, We’re Telling You To Skip the Tenders
That sentence felt illegal to type.
And yet, here we are.

Because at a park where it is deeply tempting to order the usual suspects and keep moving, the Cuban sandwich at Backlot Express managed to do something rare: it stood out. In a meal where not everything was a winner, this sandwich was one of the clear bright spots, which honestly makes it feel even more powerful. It’s like being the most competent person in a group project. You notice.
Why This Sandwich Actually Works
The Cuban sandwich comes with roasted pulled pork, sliced ham, Swiss, pickles, and mustard on pressed bread, served with plantain chips. The pulled pork leaned a little dry, but the ham helped balance that out by bringing some juiciness to the party. There was a solid amount of Swiss and mustard, the bread had a nice panini-style crunch, and those crispy flat pickles gave the whole thing a more interesting texture than your standard sad little sandwich topping situation.

And that’s really the key here. This sandwich has personality.
It’s savory, tangy, a little messy, a little bold, and noticeably more interesting than the kind of theme park meal you eat purely for survival. It feels like someone put at least a little thought into making it flavorful, which is more than we can say for a shocking number of counter-service entrees.

Now, are the plantain chips the star? No. Absolutely not. They were the weak point, and you should probably swap them for another side, like fries, when you order this. But the sandwich itself still did enough heavy lifting to make the order worth it.
Our Official Tender Betrayal Statement
Look, we are not saying chicken tenders are over. Let’s not get reckless.
We are saying that if you are in Hollywood Studios, standing in line, tempted to order the same safe meal you always order because you’ve been burned before by dry buns, floppy fries, and sandwiches with the emotional range of packing peanuts, this is one of those times when branching out might actually reward you.

The Cuban sandwich at Backlot Express is flavorful, crunchy, a little quirky, and memorable enough to dethrone the tenders for one meal. One! That is how you know it’s serious.
The Last Bite
Chicken tenders will always have a seat at our table. Possibly at the head of it. Possibly wearing a tiny crown.

But every now and then, a different menu item rises up, grabs the spotlight, and reminds us that quick-service food at Disney doesn’t have to be boring just because it comes on a tray. At Backlot Express, that item is the Cuban sandwich.
So yes, this is us officially telling you to skip the tenders. We can’t believe it either.
