Sweet connoisseurs rejoice! Not one, but two new cupcakes have debuted at the Magic Kingdom!

Located in the Main Street Confectionery — the park’s “ old-fashioned candy shop where delightful treats including character-inspired candy apples and Mickey cereal treats are made” — each of these new treats brings interesting flavor profiles on paper. But did they live up to their sweet potential? We found out…
The first of the Main Street Confectionery’s new offerings is the Mickey Cereal Cupcake with M&M’S Milk Chocolate Minis. This $6.99 cereal-flavored cupcake features buttercream frosting with dark chocolate Mickey ears and M&M’S Minis.

In what will be a running theme throughout this review, our first note is that the frosting on this cupcake is very dense, to the point that it’s hard to get through with a knife and fork. Both the frosting and cupcake had almost a light butterscotch flavor to them, but nothing overpowering or in your face. The cupcake itself was very crumbly and a bit on the dry side, making it prone to falling apart, and the dark chocolate Mickey ears have quite a snap to them. It takes a bit of a bite to get a piece. Overall, while slightly dry, we’d call this a good option for vanilla cupcake fans

Next, there was the Mickey Espresso Cupcake with DOVE Chocolate Pieces. Also priced at $6.99, this chocolate cupcake comes with espresso-flavored buttercream frosting, with dark chocolate ears, and DOVE chocolate pieces.

This chocolate cupcake had some of the same issues as the Cereal Cupcake above. The cake itself was a bit dry and crumbly. In fact, this one was even more prone to falling apart from our experience. The frosting was, once again, quite dense. However, it was packed with espresso flavor. The flavor was light and sweet, closer to an espresso ice cream than drinking an actual espresso. The chocolate and espresso flavor combination was good and mixed well, as long as there was a bit of cupcake and a bit of frosting in each bite. Otherwise, it was either a crumbly chocolate cupcake or pure dense espresso frosting.

Overall, both of these cupcake offerings had their slight downsides — dry cake and dense frosting among them — but would be enjoyable for fans of vanilla cupcakes and chocolate espresso, respectively.
