With Disney’s latest animated film, Zootopia 2, becoming a runaway smash — adored by fans, inspiring attraction re-themes at Disney World, and even snagging multiple Golden Globe nominations — it’s no surprise the parks are leaning into the hype. And now, one of the film’s standout characters, Gary De’Snake, has officially made his debut in the only Zootopia-themed land on Earth, bringing even more buzz (and a little hiss) to Shanghai Disneyland.

Have you heard the news? With the release of Zootopia 2, Shanghai Disneyland is bringing a brand-new face (or scales) to its beloved Zootopia land — and yes, we mean a snake. Gary De’Snake, the slick pit viper at the heart of the new film’s mystery, has officially made his debut in the park, and we are absolutely LOVING the addition.

Gary’s presence has been woven into nearly every corner of Zootopia at the international park. The land’s marquee received a reptile-print makeover to reflect his arrival, subtle shadows of Gary now appear in “Nocturnal Alley,” and the visual updates even extend to ride and show overlays — including refreshed scenes for the attraction Zootopia: Hot Pursuit and the daily puppet-show style storytelling experience Zootopia Comes Alive.

If you were hoping to catch Gary in action, you’re in luck. “Zootopia Comes Alive” isn’t just background ambiance anymore — Gary now interacts with other characters in the windows along Mane Street, sometimes even playing scenes from the new film. And in a wink to Zootopia 2’s soundtrack, a version of the song Zoo (by Shakira) temporarily replaces the ride’s soundtrack, immersing visitors in movie-style energy as you race through the city chase.

In Disney’s tease, they even shared a short clip of Gary at the window singing a heart-warming few lines of Zootopia’s smash hit, “Try Everything,” and it’s already brought on the misty eyes in our office.

Because Shanghai is home to the only Zootopia-themed land in the world, seeing a new character like Gary here feels especially unique. For visitors, whether you’re a long-time Zootopia fan or just curious about the hype, Gary’s addition gives every corner of the land a fresh sense of excitement and discovery. Spotting his scaled logo on signs, catching a glimpse of him in a show scene, or hearing the faint hiss reminds you just how deep the immersion goes — it’s the kind of detail that makes a trip to Zootopia feel brand new, even if you’ve been before.

In short, whether you’re exploring the rides, enjoying the atmosphere, or hunting down Easter eggs, Gary De’Snake makes this a perfect time to revisit Zootopia at Shanghai Disneyland. And trust me, you’re going to want to say hi in person!
