We know Disney World’s rules are in place to keep every guest safe, happy, and enjoying the parks without major disruptions. These rules are very important to make sure the parks function properly, and we’re grateful to the Cast Members who manage everything from rides to cleaning to guest services.

Every time we’re at Disney World, we ensure that we’re following these rules because we know they exist for a reason and are important. But even when we’re trying our best, there are just some rules we can’t help but break. ?
Eat Dessert Last
Yes, society tells us that we should eat our main entree before eating dessert. This is probably for the best, since the sugar-packed treats at the end of our meals are typically the least healthy for us.

But when we’re at Disney World, we break this rule (often). We’re on vacation, and we do what our hearts and inner child tell us to. And most of the time, that’s to eat the ice cream, Dole Whip, churros, and Mickey bars any time we want, even if we haven’t had dinner yet.
Show Up On Time for Lightning Lanes
When you book Lightning Lanes on the My Disney Experience app, you’ll select a return time for each ride. This will be a one-hour window (plus a 15-minute grace period), during which you’ll head to that ride, scan in, and hop on.

HOWEVER, this is not a hard and fast rule, and we do break it from time to time. While your app will tell you that you have one hour to scan into your ride, we know that you ACTUALLY have 119 extra minutes after your window ends. If you get there 120 minutes after your one-hour window, you might scan red, and the Cast Members likely won’t let you on. We use this to our advantage often, because after the one-hour window ends, you can select another Lightning Lane!
Always Have a Dining Reservation
Generally speaking, we encourage having at least one table-service dining reservation during your Disney World vacation if you can swing it. And many times, we suggest locations in EPCOT because there are SO many great places to try there.

The times we ALWAYS break this rule, though, are when there is an EPCOT festival going on! Four times a year, EPCOT has one of its festivals: Festival of the Holidays, Festival of the Arts, Flower and Garden Festival, and the Food and Wine Festival. These festivals include lots of food booths with fun appetizer-sized dishes, and we’ll always skip a dining reservation to enjoy these booths instead.
Eat Meals at Normal Mealtimes
Unless you have kids who need a normal routine and schedule, breaking the societal norm of strict mealtimes is a great option in Disney World. Standard mealtimes are the busiest times at restaurants, so if you want to skip the long lines, try dining outside of the typical times (i.e., breakfast from 8-9 AM, lunch from 11:30 AM -1 PM, and dinner from 5-6 PM).

Another great way to skip the long lines at mealtimes is to use Mobile Order!

We recommend following Disney World’s rules; otherwise, it might end with you being asked to leave the parks. We want everyone to have a safe and fun experience, but we completely understand if you sometimes break these 5 rules. Trust us, you’re not alone!
