Cruising with Disney is a BLAST…if you know how to do it right!

Whether it’s your first time sailing with the Disney Cruise Line or you’re a seasoned Disney sailor, it’s never a bad idea to stay up-to-date on the latest planning tips. Fortunately, we’ve sailed aboard our fair share of Disney cruise ships, and we’re sharing some of our favorite planning tips with YOU!
Pack A Carry-On
As is the case with pretty much every cruise line, luggage is checked in before you board the ship and delivered to your room at a designated time. That means you’ll likely be without your stuff during embarkation.

Doing stuff like using the pool could be a great use of time when you get on the ship and don’t have access to your room yet. With that in mind, it’s important to bring with you a carry-on with swimsuits, extra clothes, and other essentials since you won’t have access to your luggage.

Small bags are convenient to carry around and can keep you covered when you’re still waiting on the bulk of your stuff.
Know The Rules
Sailing with the Disney Cruise Line isn’t quite like going to the Disney Parks. There are different sets of rules and regulations that apply here that you won’t find at the parks.

Get familiar with the rules of the ship, such as prohibited rules and banned behaviors. You might be shocked to learn that things like heating pads, streaming devices like Amazon Fire Sticks and Google Chromecasts, and Heelys are BANNED.

It doesn’t hurt to check the procedures online before you go and while you’re packing.
Book Character Experiences Early
The Disney Cruise Line still has that Disney charm with complimentary character meet-and-greets!

These experiences can get pretty popular, but you can book them 30 days out from your trip, and we absolutely recommend doing so!
Know The Dress Codes
Disney cruise ships have an eclectic array of dining options (also included in their rotational dining). Because of this, you won’t have the same experience at every restaurant.

Certain signature dining experiences, like Palo Steakhouse (found on the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny), require a dress code. For example, this restaurant requires guests to “dress in a manner consistent with the restaurant’s sophistication. Formal or semi-formal attire is recommended. Also permitted is dress-casual attire with a polished look, such as dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts, dressy tops and lifestyle shoes. For brunch at Palo Steakhouse, dress shorts are acceptable. Clothing such as T-shirts, swimwear and sports attire are not permitted.”

Check with the restaurant websites for specific dress code guidelines while packing.
Know The Pools
It’s important to figure out the pool situation in advance for a couple of reasons.

The first reason is that it can be easy to get lost if you’re searching for smaller, less crowded pools.

If you want some alone time away from all the kids, keep an eye out for the adults-only pool!

We sail with the DCL all the time, and there are plenty of rules we abide by. Some change over time, but we’ll keep you posted when a rule evolves or a new one pops up!
