REVIEW: This PURPLE Pizza Is Going VIRAL at Epic Universe. Did It Live up to the Hype?

Universal’s brand-new Epic Universe park looks poised to be a massive hit. The technologically-advanced theme park features stunning attractions, breathtaking themed lands, and of course, some delicious food.

There are bathrooms near Celestial Park’s Pizza Moon.

Recently, we paid a visit to Pizza Moon in Epic’s Celestial Park. Themed as “an early 1900s Victorian theater converted into a spectacular eatery where the finest pizzas in Universal Epic Universe are prepared,” the restaurant is home to the Pizza Lunare, a.k.a. the park’s viral ube crust pizza! Wanna see it? Let’s dive in!

The Pizza Lunare features roasted garlic béchamel, fromage de lune, ricotta, pancetta, garlic confit, all on a purple celestial ube crust, which is made from purple yams. The pie, which serves two, costs $18.99.

The Pizza Lunare’s vibrant purple crust and unique-for-a-theme-park ube crust made it a bit of a viral sensation during Epic Universe’s preview period, but the question is: did it live up to the hype?

So, visually, the pizza was indeed really cool looking, and visually fit the vibes of Pizza Moon VERY well!

Pizza Lunare

Overall, we personally really enjoyed the Pizza Lunare. It’s a very unique option, and something we’d definitely get again.

From a flavor standpoint, the first thing you need to know is that the ricotta taste is STRONG. Those who enjoy it will probably love this pizza, and those who don’t enjoy ricotta… well, there are plenty of other pizzas on the menu. We found the pizza’s other flavors relatively mild, but not something many will be used to, pizza-wise.

Not your typical pizza.

The ube crust is fine, though a bit bready. In general, the crusts weren’t crispy — a fair warning to those who prefer their pizza to have a crunch.

Purple crust!

We would recommend giving the Pizza Lunare a try if you’re in Epic Universe, UNLESS you’re not a fan of ricotta or simply prefer more traditional-style pizza, at which point we’d probably advise something else off the Pizza Moon menu.

We also tried the less viral but equally intriguing Trip to Vesuvio. This pie, which also serves two at $18.99, features a blend of fromage de lune, pepperoni, fennel sausage, roasted peppers, caramelized onions, cherry peppers, Calabrian chili, and fresh arugula, all topped with a drizzle of hot honey.

The first thing and most noticeable thing about this pie is that it’s loaded with arugula, so if you’re not a fan, we’d advise removing it.

That’s a lot of arugula

(This is as good a time as any to mention that customization options are slim to nil in the Universal app, so if you’re planning on making changes to the listed ingredients, we’d advise ordering at the counter instead of mobile ordering.)

While the description of this pizza may sound overly spicy, it was spicier in flavor than it was in heat. In fact, the heat level was relatively mild.

Veggies

We would definitely get the Trip to Vesuvio again, and would recommend it with the slight caveat that it is heavy on vegetables, so those with an aversion to greens may want to keep that in mind.

We tried two of Pizza Moon’s unique offerings and enjoyed both! Stay tuned to AllEars for more on the foods of Epic Universe!
