The Most Shocking Disney World Announcements Coming in 2025

Get ready for some BIG Disney World announcements!

Magic Kingdom

Although plenty of changes are currently in the works at Disney World, there are still a lot of previously announced projects that we NEED to know more about. Fortunately, the upcoming Destination D23 should divulge some desired updates.

Taking place at Disney World’s Coronado Springs Resort from August 29th through August 31st, 2025, Destination D23 will deliver “exciting announcements and see sneak peeks from the many worlds of Disney.” Of course, that includes some upcoming Disney World developments.

Here are a few of the updates/announcements we expect Disney to make this year.

Of the many upcoming announcements, few would rock the internet as much as Disney World expansion updates.

The new Villains Land and the Cars expansion in Magic Kingdom as well as the new Monsters, Inc. Land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios were all announced last August, but we still don’t really have any confirmed dates yet.

While details of these projects continue to trickle out, and the Monsters, Inc. Land begins to make some serious progress with the upcoming closure of Muppets Courtyard in June, timelines are still a little murky.

By simply announcing milestone dates like closure timelines (or, miraculously, completion dates) at this year’s Destination D23, Disney could amplify hype levels to 11. While we don’t know if we will get anything that concrete, we think it would be wise for Disney to give us some tastes of when we could expect some of these Disney World expansions.

Speaking of dates, we still don’t have concrete permanent closure dates for Dinosaur in Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Tom Sawyer’s Island and the Rivers of America in Magic Kingdom.

Dinosaur was announced to remain open through 2025, but beyond that is hazy. The ride is being removed along with the rest of DinoLand, U.S.A. as it gives way to a new Tropical Americas retheme.

DINOSAUR

Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America are being demolished to create space for the new Cars expansion, and the closing day announcement could come VERY SOON. Still, if we’re waiting for any update into August, we’re hoping to hear some significant news on that front at Destination D23.

Tom Sawyer Island

Finally, we’re hoping to hear some Disney movie updates that correlate to Disney World tie-ins!

Disney is an entertainment company first and foremost — nothing the company creates exists without its illustrious filmography.  As such, it’s always adding to its ledger and these kinds of expos give the company a chance to tease their next big projects, such as upcoming Pixar films and sequels to their big blockbuster franchises.

Avatar Showcase

For example, rumors have been swirling for years about a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film. How cool would it be for Disney to make a big announcement regarding the project in August?!

Disney World is about to open a brand-new Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern as well, so the relevancy is there…we’re just sayin’!

An all-new lounge themed to Pirates of the Caribbean will open at Magic Kingdom in 2025. @Disney

Of course, all of these “announcements” are speculative, and we’re awaiting these big updates just like the rest of ya’ll. For Destination D23 updates and all things Disney World, stay tuned right here at AllEars!

  1. The only announcement I want to hear is that they’ve scrapped their plans to demolish Rivers of American and Tom Sawyer’s Island due to a relocation of CarsLand.
