Disney World is home to a wide variety of on-property hotels — each with its own style, amenities, perks, and a whole lot more.
But, that doesn’t mean all Disney World hotels are created equally. In fact, there are plenty of hotels that often stand out among the rest. But what about the hotels that don’t always get the love they deserve? And if loving these Disney World hotels is wrong, we certainly don’t wanna be right.
Disney World has three different hotel types: Deluxe ($$$), Moderate ($$), and Value ($). Each category features different perks and benefits, and even more, each hotel comes with its own set of amenities, too. Some Disney World hotels are often praised for their popularity, such as the Contemporary, Polynesian, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Riviera, and more.
But, there are some Disney World hotels that are seriously underrated — but still offer plenty of perks and things to do while you’re on your vacation. Our team has some pretty strong opinions on these underrated spots — and if loving them is wrong, we don’t wanna be right!
Old Key West
This charming little (okay, not so little — but still charming) hotel is a Disney Vacation Club Resort (in fact, it was the first!) with villa-style accommodations. It’s themed after Key West, Florida with a tropical, laid-back feel and you really feel like you’re not smack dab in the middle of the state when you’re here.
It’s a much calmer resort where you might find yourself snoozing in a lounge chair in between stops at Olivia’s Cafe for those delicious hush puppies that we can’t seem to stay away from.
Coronado Springs
Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is a Moderate hotel situated in three villages around a 15-acre lake called Lago Dorado and 545 rooms in a 15-story tower called Gran Destino Tower. Coronado often gets a bad rap for how spread out it is, but we think that’s part of its charm.
Not to mention, staying in the newer Gran Destino tower can often make you feel like you’re getting the Deluxe Resort experience at Moderate Resort pricing — which is hard to beat. Plus, there are TONS of great food options here.
Pop Century
If Disney’s Pop Century Resort has zero fans, we are dead. Welcome to Disney’s Pop Century Resort, where larger-than-life icons of past decades bring big-time fun to your Disney World vacation! The theming here is pop culture from the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. It’s corny and we love it.
What it lacks in Deluxe amenities it makes up for in just plain ol’ good vibes. The only shopping and dining spot, Everything Pop, serves a variety of foods that get the job done. And, you can’t beat being on the Disney Skyliner for the ease of transportation to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios!
All-Star Movies
All-Star Movies is the third and final hotel in the All-Star complex that also houses All-Star Sports and Music. It’s another Value Resort that’s all about movies and features movie-themed buildings.
You’ll find areas dedicated to 101 Dalmatians, Toy Story, Fantasia (original and 2000), The Mighty Ducks, and Herbie: The Love Bug at this hotel, along with a TON of nods and Easter eggs to plenty of other Disney movies, too. If you’re a Disney movie buff, this is definitely a hotel you don’t want to miss.
Port Orleans — French Quarter
themed around the heart of the city of New Orleans, the French Quarter, with plenty of fun Mardi Gras theming around the resort. The French Quarter (FQ) is the sister hotel to the adjacent Port Orleans Riverside, where the Sassagoula River runs through the back of the resort and goes upriver to the Riverside and downriver to the Disney Springs area.
It’s a cozy and quaint spot that’s close enough to the hustle and bustle of the Disney parks that doesn’t ever seem to feel too crowded like other hotels can. Plus, when you consider that you can get MICKEY BEIGNETS here, well, do we really even need any more reasons to love this spot?
