It’s a new year and a new era for the Disneyland Resort!
Expansion is on the horizon at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, meaning we’re about to get some all-new attractions and offerings. However, before all that begins, we have some ride closures that need to be addressed. While nothing will be permanently closed in January 2025 (as opposed to February), several attractions won’t be open for varying lengths of time.
As of this writing, eight (8) rides and attractions will be closed in January between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. We’ll list everything you need to know below and update you with more closure news if it pops up.
Disneyland Park Closures
Disneyland Monorail — Closed Beginning January 6th
The Disneyland Monorail is no stranger to frequent refurbishments and will experience one starting January 6th, 2025.
The monorail requires often maintenance to ensure safety and quality conditions so while it’s disappointing that it’s closing yet again, the refurbishment is understandable.
The monorail takes passengers between Tomorrowland and Downtown Disney, but walkways will still be accessible during the closure. As of now, no end date for the closure has been posted.

Travel between the Downtown Disney and Tomorrowland stations. Requires a park ticket to ride, since it loads/unloads in Tomorrowland.
Mark Twain Riverboat — Closed January 6th to January 10th
While Disney World’s Rivers of America is coming to an end, Disneyland’s is still full steam ahead. Speaking of steam, Disneyland’s steam-powered Mark Twain Riverboat will have a short closure in January.
This boat ride that takes passengers on a calm and scenic tour around the Rivers of America will be closed briefly from January 6th through the 10th and is slated to be removed from the refurbishment schedule on January 11th, 2025.
Its counterpart, the Sailing Ship Columbia, is clear from the refurbishment calendar during this time so hop on that instead if you need your Rivers of America tour fix.

Haunted Mansion — Closed January 7th to January 17th
Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride is currently in its Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay but will need to close briefly as it transitions into its usual Haunted Mansion theming for the first time in over a year.
The ride will be closed from January 7th to January 17th before it reopens to guests on January 18th in its non-The Nightmare Before Christmas form.
The Haunted Mansion recently opened a new and improved queue as well as Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond gift shop next to the attraction so it’ll be fun to see everything come together once the ride reopens in its normal form later this month.

Disneyland Railroad — Closed Beginning January 13th
While we’ve mentioned several short closures, it appears one popular ride may be closed for a bit.
Despite undergoing a lengthy refurbishment from August 2024 through most of October 2024, the Disneyland Railroad is set to close again starting January 13th, 2025.
This train ride around Walt Disney’s original Magic Kingdom does not have an official reopening date yet as it undergoes maintenance and repairs. We’ll keep you posted as soon as something is announced.

“it’s a small world” — Closed Beginning January 21st
Disneyland’s Holiday Season officially ends on January 6th, but “it’s a small world” will keep its holiday overlay until January 21st.
The ride will be closed for refurbishment as it switches back to its usual theming and the closure is expected to go into the spring.
We’ll let you know when an official reopening date pops up!

Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and Walt Disney — A Magical Life — Closed Until May 16th
Disneyland’s Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln has been closed since April 2023 but once it reopens, it won’t be alone, as Walt Disney — A Magical Life featuring a world-class and first Walt Disney audio-animatronic will open alongside it.
The new show will play in rotation with Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and both are slated to open on May 16th, 2025.
May 16th will also be the day Disneyland kicks off its 70th Anniversary Celebration, so stay tuned for extensive coverage!
Other Closures
A few other notable closures will also occur in January, including one for Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe. This popular restaurant will close temporarily for touch-ups on January 7th, 2025 and no reopening date has been revealed.
The meet-and-greet for Tinker Bell in Pixie Hollow is still closed and will also remain closed throughout January.
No reopening date has been made available yet.
Disney California Adventure Closures
Grizzly River Run — Closed January 6th to March 13th
Disney likes to use the winter time to refurbish water rides since the cold weather typically dissuades guests from riding, so we’ll see Grizzly River Run close for a few months for a refurbishment.
The rapids ride at Disney California Adventure will be closed from January 6th to March 13th, 2025, so if your next trip is between those dates you’ll unfortunately be out of luck if this is one of your favorites.
If you’re craving a water ride during those early months, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland will remain open.
Grizzly River Run
Ride the rapids around Grizzly Peak in a large raft. You WILL get wet.
Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind — Closed January 6th to January 23rd
The family ride based on Disney and Pixar’s beloved Inside Out franchise, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, is also scheduled to close for a short refurbishment.
The ride is slated to be closed for most of January, from January 6th through January 23rd, 2025.
Tucked away in the back of Pixar Pier, this family-friendly ride invites passengers to board a “Memory Mover” and take a spin as they assist Riley’s emotions sort through her memories.
That’s it for notable January Disneyland Resort closures! As always, we’ll continue to keep you updated on all the latest Disneyland news, ride updates, reviews, tips, and more, so stay tuned right here at AllEars to stay in the know!
