Happy New Year! Hope you are up and at ’em on this important day in January. It’s the first day of 2025, and that means Disney World is…completely the same.

While many people may celebrate the New Year with a day off work, Disney World Cast Members NEVER sleep. Sure, EPCOT and Magic Kingdom were open until the wee hours of the morning, thanks to some epic New Year’s Eve parties, but that doesn’t mean the parks will open late on January 1st. But even though it’s a new year, we spotted some of the same old problems as usual. Several rides were temporarily closed throughout the day, so let’s see how Disney World fared on New Year’s Day!
The park hours for all four Disney World parks are as follows:
- Magic Kingdom: 8AM–11PM (Early Entry 7:30AM–8AM)
- EPCOT: 9AM–9PM (Early Entry 8:30AM–9AM)
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios: 8:30AM–9PM (Early Entry 8AM–8:30AM)
- Disney’s Animal Kingdom: 8AM–7PM (Early Entry 7:30AM–8AM, Extended Evening Hours for Deluxe Resorts 7PM–9PM)
- Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park: 10AM–5PM

OK, now, let’s get to the ride closures. Here’s the thing about Disney World attractions: they’re unpredictable. One moment, a ride might be perfectly fine. The next, it could unexpectedly close. You just never know what might cause a ride to close!

By 9:15AM, we spotted our first closures of the day. Three of the four parks reported a ride was temporarily closed on the morning of January 1st. Those rides were Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom, The Seas with Nemo & Friends in EPCOT, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The good news is that these closures don’t always last all day! In fact, by 9:55AM, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was back up and running. Of course, on such a big holiday like New Year’s Day, it didn’t take long for the wait time to jump to 100+ minutes.

Later, we checked back in and noticed some new closures! By 10:50AM, Disney was reporting three ride closures: TriceraTop Spin, Space Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Need more proof things can change on a dime? Look what was closed at 11:15AM, just 25 minutes later. Space Mountain was finally up and running, but Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure went and closed in EPCOT.

Oh, and Pirates of the Caribbean was still closed. During our visit to the park this morning, we spotted some Cast Members near the entrance. They told us to check back later! Hot tip: check the My Disney Experience app instead of walking all the way back to Adventureland if this ride is closed. There is no sense in wasting your time when the app has all the information you need!

Finally, by noon, ALL rides in Disney World were up and running! That doesn’t mean you won’t see more closures throughout the day, but hey, a win’s a win, right?

In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.
