4 Important Rules You Didn’t Know About Parking in Disney World

Planning your Disney World vacation is stressful enough, but then PARKING when you’re at the resort may be more hectic than you think.

If you’re driving to Disney World, you may only have to worry about parking at your Disney World hotel, but if you’re staying off-property and you have to drive in every day, then you’ve got to plan for parking at the Disney World parks, and that’s a whole other beast in itself. If you’re heading to Disney World soon here are some tips you NEED to know about parking before you arrive!

One Hotel Has A Limit on The Number of Vehicles You Can Park

Complimentary parking is available at all Disney World hotels for hotel guests, including overnight parking! However, this is only for guests staying at the hotels — friends visiting you at the hotel are not included in this perk.

Fort Wilderness Campsites

However, there’s only one hotel that specifically mentions that there’s a limit on the amount of cars guests staying at the hotels can have. Typically, this isn’t an issue for most families, as they often travel to Florida together in one car, but for families or groups of friends that may travel separately, you won’t want to stay at The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.

Fort Wilderness

On Disney World’s website, it mentions that The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort allow parking for one motorized vehicle per campsite. This means that if you’re bringing more than one vehicle to the campsite or you plan on renting a golf cart while you’re there, the remainder of your vehicles will need to be parked at the front of the resort, near the lobby.

Disney Vacation Club Members Get A MAJOR Perk

Disney Vacation Club members get tons of perks around Disney World — they get access to special lounges inside the parks, sometimes they get special treats around the resort, and so much more.

Grand Floridian Resort DVC Studio Room

They also get the ability to book at certain Disney World hotels that regular guests don’t get a chance to (unless they rent DVC points from DVC members, which you can do!). In addition to this, DVC members also get complimentary overnight standard parking at every Disney Vacation Club Deluxe Villa and Disney Resort hotel, regardless of whether they use Disney Vacation Club points or another form of payment.

Parking Rates CHANGE

Budgeting for your Disney World trip is hard as it is, but what if we told you that budgeting for parking gets even harder because parking rates CHANGE?

EPCOT Parking Lot

That’s right — parking at Disney World appears to be pretty consistent when you just look at the Disney World website, which lists pricing as follows:

  • Standard parking: car or motorcycle – $30 per day
  • Preferred parking: car or motorcycle – $45, $50 or $55 per day
  • Oversized Vehicle Parking: Shuttle, Limo, Camper Trailer, RV, Bus or Tractor Trailer – $35 per day

However, this isn’t as straightforward as it seems. Parking rates are subject to change in Disney World and parking rates can go up. Our advice? Budget anywhere between these starting rates and +$20 just to be safe! Then, if you don’t need that additional cash, you can use it towards souvenirs or snacks!

Parking for Electric Vehicles Isn’t As Straightforward As it Seems

Lastly, if you’ve got an electric vehicle, there ARE places you can charge your vehicle while you’re in the parks. However, there are limited parking spots for electric vehicles in each park. There are:

  • Five spaces at Magic Kingdom
  • Four spaces at EPCOT
  • Four spaces at Animal Kingdom
  • Four spaces at Hollywood Studios
  • 13 at Disney Springs
  • Six spaces at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, two at Disney’s Riviera Resort, and two at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
ChargePoint Stations at Disney Springs

However, parking isn’t free — the cost to charge your vehicle here is $0.35 per kilowatt hour, with a minimum service amount of $1.50. Your vehicle will stop charging when it’s full, so you won’t be charged more than you should. You’ll also need to use a credit card or a pre-ordered ChargePoint card, which you can get at chargepoint.com. If you use ChargePoint, the owner of the car will get a ping when their car has finished charging.

Coronado Springs Pool

This also means there are only THREE Disney World hotels that can charge your vehicle — you won’t find any additional electric charging stations at any other Disney World hotels, so you’ll want to plan for that in advance!

  1. The number of EV chargers in WDW is so low! Just 4 in some of the parks! We have 2 chargers at our home! We have more EV chargers in our local supermarket car parks & they’re tiny compared to the Disney car parks. We live in the UK & stay on property so don’t need a car, thankfully. We did drive to Disneyland Paris 2 years ago, though, & could charge there for free.
