It was recently announced that Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America will be closing to make way for the brand-new Cars-themed Land.Â

While some fans are divided on this topic, the new Cars Land will change the landscape of the park by filling in the Rivers of America. This means that instead of taking a boat to reach the new land, you should be able to walk to it. While the new Cars Land means that there will be no more Tom Sawyer Island, it also means that Disney quietly confirmed that one Magic Kingdom restaurant will also permanently close.
If you have visited Tom Sawyer Island, you may have noticed signage leading you to Aunt Polly’s. This is a quick-service window located in the yellow building on Tom Sawyer Island. This location was rarely open, but now that Tom Sawyer Island is being replaced, it means that Aunt Polly’s has officially closed its doors, or should we say, shuttered its windows.Â

The location has not been open for quite some time, but when Aunt Polly’s opened, it became famous for its fried chicken. The area soon turned into a seasonal dining location, and the menu changed to offer more quick-service-friendly options. These included BBQ sandwich biscuits, pretzel sticks, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and Mississippi Mud Pie. You could even get a root beer float!

It is no surprise that this location was only open seasonally during busy periods like spring break since you needed to take a boat to dine here. It is also tucked away on Tom Sawyer Island, and if you do not see people dining from the mainland over by the Haunted Mansion, it would be hard for visitors to know that you could dine on the island.

While Tom Sawyer Island’s days are numbered, as construction permits have already been filed for the new Cars Land and construction is set to begin in 2025, we are excited to see what the future holds for Magic Kingdom. Cars Land will bring two brand new attractions to the park and could potentially bring even more shopping and dining locations for you to enjoy.Â

The concept art looks promising, and we can’t wait to see how this new land turns out. Stay tuned to AllEars.net as we will continue to monitor any details we find about the construction of Cars Land and the imminent closure of Tom Sawyer Island.

I’ve wanted to eat at Aunt Polly’s for years but it’s never been open when I come to WDW.
