It’s the most wonderful time of the year…and if you know we’re talking about Halloween time, then you’re officially part of the cool kids club (or ‘ghoul kids club’ ’cause spooky puns are fun)!
Although some would think it’s a little early to talk about spooky season in the middle of August, Halloween time has taken over Disney World and this means seasonal decor, a specially ticketed celebration, and yummy treats!
Magic Kingdom has gone all out with their iconic pumpkins adorning Main Street, U.S.A., and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party kicked off on August 9th. One of our favorite things about this festive celebration is all the exclusive snacks you can have during the event, but that’s not the only place where you can get some wickedly tasty treats!
All over Disney World, you can find specialty food offerings including sweet and savory options at Disney resort hotels, theme parks, and table service restaurants. We went ahead and tried two new spooky sweet options both available at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn.
Halloween Mummy Cupcake
The Halloween Mummy Cupcake can be found at the BoardWalk Deli at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn. It’s priced at $6.49 and is available for mobile orders. This cupcake consists of a Spiced Vanilla Cupcake, Apple Compote, and Milk Chocolate Mousse, topped with Vanilla Buttercream and Dark Chocolate decor pieces.
We thought that the spice cake was so flavorful, with all the spices like clove and cinnamon being very detectable, but the apple filling was very lackluster. There wasn’t much of it and what there was of, it didn’t really stand out. It takes a back seat to the chocolate mouse which was really tasty and had a buttery, decadent flavor to it.
And although it’s more for decor, the crystal-like sprinkles around the cupcake added a fun crunch to it, making the texture more complex. Overall though, it’s a fun treat for spooky season, especially with how adorable it is. We just wish that they tried a little harder with that apple filling because that would have made this cupcake absolutely delish.
Halloween Macaron Trio
You can snag the Halloween Macaron Trio at Carousel Coffee. These macarons feature Pumpkin-spiced Milk Chocolate, Green Apple-Caramélia Chocolate, and Blood Orange-Dark Chocolate. This is available for $7.99.
The pumpkin spice macaron, which is the orange one in the trio with the chocolate bats, tasted very much like pumpkin spice, with the spice flavor being very strong. The chocolate filling paired well with it and it felt like biting into the fall season itself. The blue macaroon featured green apple and caramel chocolate but we have to be honest and confess that it did not taste like green apple to us. The caramel really stood out in this, so it mostly tasted like a caramel macaron with chocolate.
The purple macaron consists of a blood-orange filling and a dark chocolate coating. Unfortunately, the weather was not reflecting the fall vibes Disney World was giving, so the dark chocolate did melt off for us, so we did not taste much of it. The blood orange filling, however, was very flavorful and fruity, with a nice tart kick. Overall, for the price, we think that the portions are too small, and due to how delicate macarons are, it was difficult to find one that wasn’t already smushed. It is a fun treat, however, and pretty yummy, but we don’t see ourselves returning for these.
Stay tuned with us as we continue to try all the fun seasonal treats available at Disney World!
