The TRICK to Balancing Dining Reservations and Disney World’s NEW Lightning Lane System

We are hanging out in Disney World today testing the brand-new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Sing Pass systems!

As of today, July 24th, Genie+ is gone and has been replaced with these two new skip-the-line systems. Lightning Lane Multi Pass has replaced the multi-selection Genie+ and Lightning Lane Sing Pass has replaced Individual Lightning Lanes. We’re testing out this new system to give you all the in’s and out’s before your next trip. Now, we’re answering one big question: what happens to your Lightning Lane options if you have an advance dining reservation for that day?

We wondered what would happen if we tried to book a Lightning Lane that overlapped with a dining reservation we had for the same day. Would the new system let us overlap the two events or would it force us to pick a different Lightning Lane time?

So of course, we tested it out! We tried two different locations with two different dining locations — here’s what happened.

First, we were in Disney’s Hollywood Studios with an advance dining reservation for Oga’s Cantina at 12:45PM. We were booking our Lightning Lanes right at 7AM when we were about to book one for Rise of the Resistance. And the system LET US book our Lightning Lane for an overlapping time as our dining reservation!

Next, we were making Lighting Lane reservations for EPCOT at 7AM where we had a dining reservation for Spice Road Table at 11:30 AM. We were making our Lightning Lane reservation for Living with the Land and again, it let us choose a time that overlapped with our dining reservation!

The key take away here is that you can end up making Lightning Lane reservations for the same time as dining reservations, which would cost you losing one of these reservations if you end up only able to use one of them. The good thing was that as we were making our Lightning Lane selections, the app showed us what other plans we had going on that day. So you can see your dining reservations while choosing your Lightning Lane times.

We highly recommend paying close attention to the varying times of your experiences as you’re making your selections. In order to take full advantage of all these systems, try not to overlap your Lightning Lanes and dining reservations.
